what is the best way to get the more power from my stock 1.3, without upgrading to a 1.6.

1. rebuild
2. cam shaft
3. header w/ new exhust
4. bored over
Also most rebuild shops wont warrenty another party rebuild kits so which place out here should i go too? but most places out here wont tune it for me either?

I need this cause i cant do over 50mph any more plus its my everyday driver

my first question is 'what have you already done to it'? is the low speed because of oversized tires, extra weight, or just a tired engine?

if I can ever get things sorted out, I've got a couple of not-so-secret projects on the go to design & fab kits to turbo, port inject, and hall effect ignition the 1300..but gears would be FIRST thing on the list even then.

Re: Im still stuck on what i should do to my engin

I second that. After I put my lift kit and larger tires on I could only do about 55 or so max. Once I re-geared with 4.16s, I can cruise at 70+ in 5th all day even uphill. I just recently gave my engine a good general maintanence overhaul too which helped out a lot. I was losing power cause my timing had been knocked out of spec. I put in new plugs, wires, cap, fan belt and timing belt and adjusted everything to spec. It will now pull hard off the line and rev strongly all the way to 6K. I can easily hold 70 at 4K in 5th now.

uhh the header would be as easy as bolting but the cam takes a lil more work gears will never be beat by power its not the power you have its how you get it to the ground if you spent all that money on gears it would react more powerful than all those performance parts....just my .02 tho

Gears are nice for rock crawlin and in that respect can sometimes replace hp. But with HP you don't need as low of gears. Also with a larger motor you can still do the same as the low gear guys and smoke them all on the freeway.

What these guys are refering to is the fact that the Zuk engines are WEAK and need the taller gears to compensate for that fact, when you start putting on larger tires. Of course, gears don't provide horsepower. That's obvious, but what they do do, is basically provide less "resistance" to the power already under the hood. Case in point: I've got a Ram Air Trans Am, with an LT1 350 with too many mods to list, but stock gears. I get smoked by my buddies old VW bug that's geared for the 1/8th mile. Go figure, gears do make a difference! LOL
And going to a 1.6L isn't so much of a jump that gears wouldn't be necessary. I can understand going to a V6 (which is what I'm doing) but these guys are right: go for the gears.

Cheers,
Steve

Yep, Gears. A T/Case set is the cheapest I reckon.
But to really answer your Q (i think) Headers, Carb, Adjustable cam sprocket, Cam. Compression.
That's how I see it. In order
The stock carb is good while it is good, but for real flow and go, get a bigger throat.
For a little motor to have more go it needs lots of little bits n pieces done to it. A package so to speak.
But if you want torque go for cubic inches, as they say, there's no replacement for cubes.
2.8 sounds nice to me, just can't do it.
