It's a process where the original hole is tapped to accept a steel insert, very trick actually. Once helicoiled the threads will be as good as new, and if it's an aluminum case, it will be better than new as the threads are replaced with a steel insert.

i'm guessing here but you probably stipped a bolt sized at M6 X 1.25or1.50, find a standard size equivelent and it'll be one size bigger, tap it out and you should be okay. Don't heli coil it yet, there is nothing wrong with heli coils but it may be unneccessary right now. Try to go with a larger bolt and if it doesn't work then go with the heli coil. I like the "Helicoil Stickers". Where can I get some. Where can I get my bike Helicoiled? Doesn't Pro-Circuit do that? FMF? Race-Tech? Who? LOL

I would tend to agree with others here, unless you had all the necessary tools and inserts. The insert is stronger, but it's a whole lot easier drilling it out to the next size. Most individuals aren't aware of the whole Helicoil process, so go the easy route.
