I\'m Back....

It's been a few weeks but I have returned. The 5.0 ran great for about 3 days. The bad news is that the driverside motor mount split in half and let the flex fan go throught the radiator. The motor mount has been fixed but now I am in need of a new radiator. As soon as the jeep is running again I'll post the pics and give the final details.

Chain is a good thing.

One other thing I do, and recommend to everyone, is ot put about $15 worth of expanded metal between the fan and the radiator, it'll save you hundreds. The fan will eat the expanded metal first and give you enought time to shut it down without doing damage.

My older brother has lost 3 radiators this way, each time he said the problem wouldn't recurr, and he's right, a different one sprung up each time. He's had the motor mounts break, the fan come off, and the radiator fall into the fan. Each time he's had to shell out $200 for a new radiator. $15 worth of expanded metal would have prevented that from happening.

No, it does not restrict the air flow. It comes in many mesh sizes, and it goes between the radiator and the fan. It comes in raised and flat sizes, I recommend the flat for this application, you don't need it to be thick, it just has to stop the fan for a short time.

Expanded metal is a great idea on both sides of the Rad. I always run a thin piece (1/4 gap) in front of the Rad to protect against rocks and sticks, never thought about a piece behind for the fan. Next job.
