Ignition problem.....I think!

What's up guys?
I need alittle help here..... My tuck is acting alittle funny again. It's been running great for months with the NEW Ford motorsport mass air conversion kit. But yesterday I took her out for a 15 min. drive and parked it for approx. 30 minutes and when I went to start her it just wouldn't ignite. I turned it over and over and finally she fired up. It idled fine then stalled. I did that five times in a row. It almost felt like someone was under my hood and pulled my ignition coil off while it was running . It would idle nice and smooth at 800 rpm's then just cut out. The engine didn't bog or chug. It was just like someone turned the key off.
I hope I'm making sense here. Any suggestions guys......ignition coil, ign module, computer, bad ground?
Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

Jerry D.

I wish it was guys.
I just changed my fuel filter the other day when I did an oil change.
It's hard to explain.......It doesn't feel like a fuel problem.
It will run for a couple of seconds and then cut out....just like I turned the ignition off. And as it's shutting down the atermarket tach will jump around like it's on crack.

Re: Ignition problem.....I think!

I would guess ignition coil or TFI module. I don't see how it could be the starter solenoid since it's an idling problem.

(or did you guys mean another solenoid?)

Speaking of TFI modules... I found out FORD is not alone in expensive failure-prone replacement parts... my brother's Toyota Celica died and wasn't getting spark, so I did some reading on the web and here at ORC. Apparently Toyota has an "igniter" in the ignition system that is solid state electronics like the TFI, and fetches $200 used and over $300 new

It's so bad that they are rigging up some GM HEI part to take its place.... glad to know we're not alone

Thankfully, his problem turned out to be a bad coil secondary winding. $55 and he's back on the road. Damn I hate working on FWD cars, the coil is inside the distributor and you have to take half the car apart to get to it

Re: Ignition problem.....I think!

My 89 did the exact thing the other day and it ended up being the fuel pump under the driver side on the rail. Over the past few years, it would do the same thing but would always restart after about 30 minutes. Not this time though. Also check the ECC Relay circuitry near the relay as well as the circuitry of the fuel pump on the driver side fender well.

Good luck.

Re: Ignition problem.....I think!

I finally got around to changing the TFI module. I couldn't get a hold of a Ford TFI so I went to the local auto parts store and bought a WELLS TFI module. (Part# F121)
Has anyone used products from this company before? This is a first for me.

Anyway, I think this did the trick!
So far so good.........

Thanks for all the help guys.
