Whats the deal? It seems to me everyone on here must own a chevy with the IFS- Where are all the straight axle guys? Old iron die hards, where are you at?

Hey I'm here! Love my SFA! However, there is a disclaimer that goes with SFA:

"The SFA oversight committee will not be held responsible for the splintering or breaking of teeth during vehicle operation. It is the sole responsiblity of the said ocupant to clench his or her OWN teeth to avoid unnecessary and unpleasant dental work. Have a nice day."

We used to have a lot more solid axle owners and content than we do now, but in the last 4 months or so we seem to have gained a rather large IFS owning crowd, of which I am part of, but I'm a long term ORC/Chevy resident./wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif Anyways, we can usually answer any question you have, IFS or solid axle, and if we can't, just mosey over to http://www.ColoradoK5.com. A site dedicated to K5's, but they don't really care what you drive, as long as it's GM, and anything solid axle they can answer or help you with./wwwthreads_images/icons/cool.gif

They even help me out from time to time./wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

Yup, I'm a solid axle guy too, used to have more of us in here, but not so much anymore. Too bad really. CK5 is a good board, but it moves too fast for me to keep up with. That and I know alot of the guys in here, feels like home. Still alot of knowledge in here, and it's the friendliest board on the net.

Nice to know there are at least a few of us out there. as the years go by, I suppose Solid front axles will go the way of the dodo, but of course so will IFS. I'm just wondering, what will we do in the future-I mean, hovercrafts cant bog, or climb rocks! Anyway, just checking to see whats up, thankx for the advice about ColoradoK5.

Well, considering Ford has the solid axle on the Super Duty's (even went back to it on the F250's) and Dodge just signed a big contract with AAM to make solid axles for the Ram 2500 and 3500, I doubt it's going the way of the dodo. Just the 1/2 tons will remain IFS since most of the people who buy them will never use them offroad, and the bigger trucks keep the stronger, more durable solid axles. Heck, you can still get solid axles on several new production vehicles overseas./wwwthreads_images/icons/tongue.gif

Ha, and lots of us are trying fervently to ditch our IFS for solid axles. I sure am! I almost did it this fall but my finances got in the way. Lack of finances I should say./wwwthreads_images/icons/tongue.gif

Heck, even chev is going back on the SFA bandwagon with the new k4500 and k5500 trucks to compete with the superduties.

I hate to mention Heeps, but have you guys heard about the Wrangler that's coming out this summer? Called the Rubicon; it comes stock with D44s front and rear, either air or electric lockers on both ends (I forget which), and 31" MT/Rs. Should be able to handle 33s no sweat, maybe even 35s, and a bolt on 5-6" lift for the TJ will ramp way over 1000. It'll be a hell of a wheeler right off the showroom floor though. Almost makes me want to cross over to the dark side...

Yea i got the solid front axle. Gotta love the old 3/4 tons with the large lock in lock out hubs. Hey 79K20 how far are you in your conversion. This summer i was going to convert a 77 C 30 to a K 30 but the front of the frame didnt give me much to go on as far as line up points to locate the the spring hangers. Just curious on how your planning to do it.

It will NEVER be "Done"

73k20, I haven't got much done yet. I plan to use the springs and axles out of my 79' as soon as I get my d60, 14 bolt combo with 4.56's and detroits to swap in it. Right now the 2wd is sitting on blocks with the front suspension taken out. I guess I should start figuring this stuff out./wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

Hmmmm, I'm confused, but I think maybe I'm supposed to be... Insulted? Maybe? Possibly it was a dig at Jeep owners and not myself personally? Oh well, I guess I just don't get it.

question-what does LMMFAO stand for? I understand BTW(By the way)but am stumped on the other. Lift in my big truck was accomplished by shackle flip in the back and 4" blocks.Lift in the front is positive arch springs with an 8" drop bracket on the front of them.(this brings the pinion angle back to reasonable, but makes it hard to steer. I also had to do a crossover steering setup to make everything work. Problem now is, the front tires are too F@#*ing big to turn, so I am going to have to put in hydraulic. I was thinking a combine orbital valve and an implement ram, but I'm not sure what I would need for a pump, or maybe if the chevy pump would still do the trick. any suggestions would be helpful. Trying to find a digital camera to borrow, then I can put a pic of the truck up.
