When I first cranked my 88 Xj exceeds 2000 Rpm. I then have to kill engine and restart several times before it idles correctly. Any ideas on what problem could be. This is 4.0 L Automatic
I've had this exact same problem before. I did two things and not sure which one was the exact problem but I believe it was the IAS sticking. I removed it from the TB and cleaned it up, also adjusted the TPS and it's never done it again.
IAS is the Idle Air Stepper, TPS is Throttle Position Sensor, both located on the throttle body. I have the Renix fuel injection manual that details about both including how to adjust the TPS. If you want it let me know and I'll send you a copy through email.
