You can get a real good B2 or Ranger with some left for upgrades. When looking for a Ranger, try to get the TTB version since it's stronger than IFS and if you ever wanna swap in a straight front axle, it wouldn't involve a whole lot of customization.

I would be very tempted to go with a early bronco, late 70's if I was spending $8000. 9 inch and d44, for 8 grand you can probobly find one with a mustang 5.0 already swapped in.

careful alot fo those early broncos had dana 30 straight axles

not the late 70's broncos. they had Dana 44's and a 31 spline 9". Can't beat that combo.
