Not that Im going into buisness, but when Im learning more advanced welding, I'd like to have a project instead of running beads. So if anyone can think of OFF ROAD products that are fabricated, and that are either 1. Not made yet 2. Made, but crappily so or 3.Made put overpriced tell me and Ill try to make one. No one will ever want to buy any of the first batch but who knows, and maybe I'll make some cool [censored] for my truck in the proscess.

I've already got 2 mentions of angled in bed tire carrier.

Thanks for the help, I know that there are a lot of fabbers, and Im not trying to start a business, well, not yet... might as well try eh?

Ok, unique and well made product ideas gooooo now!

Re: Not made, Miss Made, Or Overpriced Metal Work

Good idea! I might trust ORD a little more than my [censored] welds. I am thinking of a front bumper that will prooly act as a brace, we'll see.

Seriously Timmy, any ideas.

BTW - I'm really trying to not come across as Mr. God Welder gonna make a millon. I just need projects. Ok? /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

Re: Not made, Miss Made, Or Overpriced Metal Work

One thing I'd find useful would be a large box for inside the vehicle. In this box would be things like CB, other radios, any radio equipment like CD player, etc and storage for any other valuables (radar detector, GPS, etc). Heavy plate steel is what I'd use. Theft proof. /wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif I'd put it between the seats for easy access. That might or might not be something useful for most people or for you... I'd love to be able to just park somewhere with windows, etc open (maybe half doors or removable doors like a Jeep) and not worry about people with sticky fingers getting to my stuff...

Some people make these type of things, but I think I'd prefer to have something much heavier than anything else around.

RJ, What about some skid plates for under trannys/transfer cases ? Maybe for under the differentials ? I will think of more and post them later. I get lots of ideas but hardly ever carry through with them. Oh and as far as I am concerned you can be God Welder. I hope you get all the business. Maybe then they will stop bringing the stuff here and asking me /wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif.

Here's an idea I've been toying with:

Rock slider rails attatched like on blusmbl's 5/4T Military, with a brace between both shackles, and then near the front of the rails tie the sliders into a tough ass tranny crossmember/skid plate. To make it even better, put a piece of plate from the back side of the slider rails bakc into the truck like the flimsy gas tank skid plates. Tie these into the frame behind the tanks (if you keep your tanks).

Also how making rocker panels that connect to the floor boards, curve downwards and then continue to the frame rails as an cab mount/ skid plate sorta like whats in the attached pic.

you might weld up a falg holder like i did for my truck. it really turns some heads. i had a state trooper pull me over so he could see how i did it. he told me he couldn;t just pull me over for no reason, so he said that it was for a headlight that was out. but he must have "confused" my vehicle for another white truck with a huge as flag on it. it wsa pretty aesy fab up.

RJ have you thought of making that bed you are fabricating into a dump bed ? Just a thought. You could also make a front bumper with brushguard. A model I have always wanted to see was the deer hunter model. Strong enough to take out a deer with a direct hit and leave no damage to the brushguard or truck. Oh and of course you need to fab up a set of crosshairs to put on the top of the brush guard for those who dont drive so straight /wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif.

I"ve put a site on a truck before. i put it on the leading edge of my hood. one on the drivers side on on the passenger side. usd them to know where my wheels were so i could accurately take out racoons and and opossums.

Im designing a brush bumper thing for my truck as we speak. It'll have a front reciever too. I have the base part done, but now need to design the brush guard part. Can't have it block lights or signals, so its kinda hard. Dont want it to block air flow either.

Nuts to a dump bed, I dont want to get to much of a hydraulic system in there, although its cool. Not gonna haul a lot of dumpable stuff anyway.

Id think a high impact bumper wpould need to be more forward to allow for gusseting and such, triangulatio instead of L shaped design. Hmmmm. Cant very well brace it through the damn radiator. maybe underneath with skids. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I say, get spikes on the front so you cary it instead of running over it. Dinner on the hoof!

Lesse, so far what Im thinking of for projects besides my personal ones are - Tire Carrier, Tool Mount, Bumper, any more guys and girls?

Try to figure out a way to incorporate a driveshaft loop between the t-case skid plate and the "newly fabbed" skidplate under the rear diff. This would be useful to folks like me who like to send driveshafts out into the woods. If you build this I definitely want one!!!

Upadted List:

1. In Bed Tire Mount Removeable At Angle
2. Tool Mount (Shovel, Ax, Spade)
3. Rear Bumper w/ Tire And Handyman Carrier
4. Front Bumper w/ Deer Killing Properties
5. Skidplates w/ Driveshaft Loops
6. Flag Holder (?)

Thanks for the ideas, hopefully it wont blow a lot this winter and I'll be in the shop. The first damn thing I'm gonna weld is a stove for my shop. Anyone seen plans for this, like made out of a 55 gallon barrel. Electric fan driven?

Driveshaft loops, I was just thinking that today for some reason. Prolly casue I got my front one cut today.

Hey thanks for the ideas, I really appreciate them. Keep em coming.

beaterchevy- I WISH I had a 5/4 Military vehicle. /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif Unless you count the Mail Jeep (RIP).

Peacock- that is a badass flag bracket...I haven't seen any other trucks flying a fullsize flag here. /wwwthreads_images/icons/frown.gif
