Hey i just bought a 1988 2.8L 6cly. S10 Blazer and i whould like to know if any of you people have had any problems at all with yours. pleas let me know what problems u have had with yours even the smallest because i want an idea of how good of a 4x4 it is. and i would like to know how it compares with the 4.3 version i would like to know what problems u had with the blazer stock. and i would also like to know if this statement is true because i dont think it is "My 1988 Suzuki Samurai Could beat your Blazer on and off the road." i have an auto trans and he has standard but i know i could take him. so please write to me and tell me the stuff id like to know and if u could give me an idea of how good of an offroad vehicial the blazer is it would be nice. please keep in mind i would like the hear from people with stock blazers. thank you for any help anyone can give me.

Well the biggest problem is the shift mechansim that engages the front axle. I don;t know what shape your blazer is in, but off road mine is awsome, i also have an 88 blazer, with a 2.8 in it, it won;t hold a candle to the torque the 4.3 can make, but its a pretty good engine as long as you keep up with the maintence. Check your CV (Constant Velocity) shafts, (the things that connect the front diff to your tires), and make sure the boots on there aren't cracked or split, If so then you are going to have to rebuild them. Not to difficult, but time consuming. As for the Samurai, I can beat my wifes 96 4 door side kick with a 1.9 in it.

Any off-road vehicle should be considered only as a starting point. Determine what kind of off-roading you will be doing most and then upgrade the vehicle until it performs the way you want it to. Don't worry too much about what your buddy thinks about your rig. You need only satisfy yourself. I've heard lots of crap about what a cruddy engine the 2.8 is, all of it is hogwash. My first S10, an '82 2x ran 160000 miles and was still going when I traded that vehicle in. It could have used more power but so what? I've heard guys with LS-7 big blocks say the same. Go figure.

well I have a 85 s10 2.8 4x4 and I love it. it does great on the trails and in the mud. I got 580,000 miles out of the original engine. if you want to see how well in does look at some of the things I was doing with it at the S10 Jamboree last weekend.......

i have an 83 s-10 4x4 with a carbed 2.8 Its not the best towing motor but i can say that ive pulled a dodge dakota 2wd and a new, very stuck Ranger 4x4 out of the mud.

2.8L, 31x10.50 A/T and a 700r4 tranny
