I finally found a nice tow rig for cheap enough and I got it delivered last nite. Its an 87 GMC Suburban 3/4 ton 4WD 350/TH400/208 with power everything and the tow package. I would have rathered a big block but unfortunately its not available in the 4WDs
Anyways its in really good shape, just a little rust on the body and a few little things that need to be done but for $2000 its great. The inside is like new with three big bench seats, now I can pull my Commando and take 8 other people with me.

I love those old international pickups.

My grandfather taught me how to drive a stick on his 74 3/4 ton. That truck was a beast! 392 v8? and all the low end torque you could ever ask for....just don't drive them any long distances...it will loosen your fillings.

Allways love the bigger Suburbans, had an 87 (my favorite) but see pic below. Now have an 89, basically the same. You cant beat all that room and steel around you. Heres an old pic of mine in Baja. That trip lasted 3 weeks until............

I'd say it's pretty obvious. All those coolers full of beer on top raised the center of gravity so high that the donkey just had to breathe on it, and it fell over.

Got going a little too fast on a big flat straight for miles dirt road that all of a sudden got washed out by a big river. (dry now) I turned to try avoiding going down about 40' and it worked, the front tires stayed on the dirt road but the back slipped off and then I rolled it 5 1/2 times I think. We counted the marks in the dirt to figure how many. I was doing about 70mph and my girlfriend had just said, "could you slow down some?" As I was going over I said Ssoooorrrryyyy

here' s a pic of us rolling it back over.

And one after getting it running. This is in front of the Polica Station. I found out it's illegal to get into an accident in Mexico.
But hey, I had a nice Sony stereo that pleased the only policeman in town. The police station was as small as one of those drive thru coffe shops. Didn't even have a phone. I was 4 1/2 hours from the closest city.

The following year I did the same month long trip in Baja, but in my 89 Suburbann. I thought it would be cool to try to find my old sub. Man they stripped every single nut and bolt off the thing. I saved the winch/bumper and still have it now.
Actually I had been drinking non stop just about the whole time. but that day I rolled I had just finished making pancakes on the old Coleman stove and packed up and was on the road. It was 8:30 am.
The white things underneath are oyster/clam shells. there were piles of them out in this field and thats where somebody put her to rest.

Got some pics today, I really like driving this thing. Rides really nice for a 3/4 ton truck and has plenty of power. The only thing that bothers me is the oil pressure seems to drop really low when idling in drive after its warmed up.
I checked the level and it was a quart low and kind of old so I changed it but it still is doing it. I might put a new sender in and see if its reading properly. Anyways heres a pic:

Nice rig DF

Now concerning the IH trucks. I was heading to a job today and saw this tricked out 2wd Travelall pulling an enclosed trailer. The guy was some kind of interior contractor but his tow rig was too cool. He had it lowered, the body was smooth and nicely painted, windows were all blacked out, he had done a lot of work to it. I just wish I would have had my camera with me.
