Well guys,

Today we went wheeling and we saw a Hummer and a blazer. They said hello and went for some mud. A while later we decided to take off for a different area. The two followed us. My buddy Tom with a suburbon on 35's went into a hole and sunk. I winched him out.

We looked at the hummer with 38 Swampers take a look and he went for it. SUNK! He filled his Air filter up 1/2 way with water. So he was dead! Well, lets just say that he MADE MY DAY! Included is a link to 4 pictures!

I would like to note that the guy was very nice and he had a big smile on his face knowing that he made my day. He gave me is bus. card and I happened to show it to my fater and my father said that he does business with them and he is going to make a point to ask for the hummer owner! lol Just to bust on him.

alright, that's it, where do ya'll live? I'm stuck about an hour away from Chicago, and we have NOTHING when it comes to off-roading, so I have a real hard time testing my Jeep out to see what it can do, This summer I plan on going to the badlands and Silver Lake. These pics show the types of places I'd like to head out to, is anyone on this bbs even remotely near me and can steer me in the right direction? And I'm not talkin' farmer's fields either, I've had my Jeep for 2 1/2 years and have only been off-roading illegally once(and ONLY to pull out an idiot in an Amigo). I'm getting tired of dirt roads and power line access roads /wwwthreads_images/icons/frown.gif If my Jeeps clean, I'm sad...can anyone help out?? Oh, and BTW, I've driving up to 8 hours to spend 3 hours in mosquito infested swamp in the U.P., and moab is slightly outta my league..TIA

No offense to you all, if the Hummer did not make it, would you think another vechicle could have passed through all that mud? I do not own a Hummer or a Jeep.

I noticed two things in those pictures:
1) Your Jeep was a little too clean...if you want to get it seriously dirty visit Florida sometime and give me a call. I know a place where you can get through or get stuck- its actually your choice! The further to the right you go, the less chance of getting through you have /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif.
2) You have a home-grown snorkel, which happens to be my favorite modification and should be accompanied with enough silicone in and near the disrtibutor to allow you to get some use out of it. Before I swapped to HEI (which I dunked in a river before sealing it and it didn't even stutter), I made liberal use of Silicone adhesive on my stock distributor and finally got it waterproof- you just have to get that freaking vent in the back!

So...how'd you manage to rig up your snorkel? Due to my Weber install I have to make an adapter to hook my snorkel back up....

Your right, The hummer didn't make it- However I have seen trucks rip that apart and come out the other side.

Hey,
1st, adjust your monitor.
2nd, I am using a air cleaner from an AMC eagle and I have a plastic hose (like 3inches wide or so) connected to it and it runs right to the snorkel on the inside of the jeep. Take a look at my website for pictures.

JerseyWheeler, you sure have done alot in 9 months to that CJ, I just checked out your page, really cool.
How is the 304 swap going, is it a early or late 304?

Hey,
I've been busy with it. Its hard not to buy new things for it.

The 304 is a 78. I got it pretty fresh and its running great and I love it. The next thing is to beef up the rears a bit. I am considering the scout ii rears. Besides that I am going to stop buying things and save some money again :)

I have a Scout II rear and I really like it. I went with the TSM disc's but I need to get a proportioning valve.

Just curious, how did you get him out without anchoring the Jeep. Last time I winched a FS vehicle out of deep mud, we had to
chain my Jeep to a PU parked sideways behind the Jeep. And recently we tried winching a Ramcharger out of up to the doors
sticky clay, had a Jeep parked sideways behind mine hooked with a chain, and BOTH of us were getting pulled in.

Hey, good question. I got him out most of the way until he started coming up the edge of the hole. I did end up getting another jeep anchor me down.

You should have seen the water in his air cleaner!

hey steve, where are you at? I live in Libertyville, which is about 40 minutes north of Chicago. I too have been relegated to gravel access roads and the occasional blizzard for offroad fun. This summer I'm probalby going to try and find a club to join so I can get some honest to god wheeling done. Its not really all that big of an issue right now though becuase my jeep is still dead. All I have to do is finish up the vaccuum lines and put the electrical harness back in and I should be good to go. Anyone wanna help? :)

Re:yet another Hummer winched to safety by a Jeep today......

I'm in naperville, about 45 minutes west of Chicago. The club I'm still trying to Join is the Two Rivers Jeep Club, that a few of my neighbors got me into.
check out: http://www.trjc.net/home_page.htm
They meet down in Pittsfield Illinois, (near springfield) and have about 10-15 privately owned trails they have various events for. I've wheeled with em, they're really great about helping folks out and having a good time.
I love my neighborhood now too, There's one guy with a flattie, 3 of us have CJ-7's, and there's about 15 TJ's, and a few YJ's I'm trying to convert the ENTIRE neighborhood!
