How much lift for 33\'s on CJ5

I want to put some 33's on my 1977 CJ5 and I wanted to know how much lift I will need. A few of the local guys say to go with 2" suspension and 2" body to clear that big of tires. I use the Jeep to go to work and some mild off roading and some hunting on weekends.

What does every one suggest?

Thanks!

Re: How much lift for 33\'s on CJ5

On my 5 I had 2.5" susp. and ran 32x 11.5 TSL/SXs which are about the same as a 33" bfg. Had plent of clearance, didn't rub at full flex and suspect that a 33" swamper would have not rubbed at full flex either. But then again every CJ is different. HTH. By the way, i was runnin Pro Comp springs up front and skyjacker soft ride in the rear. They are for sale if you need em.

Re: How much lift for 33\'s on CJ5

I had 2.5 susp and 1/2" shackle lift. on my 5 and it never rubbed my 33X12.5's. Body lifts are such a pain, there is so many mods you have to do, I needed one to fit my fiberglass tub over the tranny and I vowed I would never go through it again.

Re: How much lift for 33\'s on CJ5

I have an 83' CJ5 with 33X12.50 BFG MTs on 15X8 Eagle alloys they have 3 1/4 " backspacing.

2 1/2 " softride springs with 3/8 " lift shackles 1" daystar body lift. Stock bump stops.

I had to trim 1/2" of the back of rear fenders and turn out my bump stops to prevent rubbing. Now It is just right. But the steering radius is not that great. If I could do it again I would look for wheels with more backspacing.
