Hey Guys,

I am looking into possibly doing a SOA on my 79 CJ using STOCK YJ springs. I noticed that the STOCK YJ springs have much less arch than STOCK CJ springs. Anyone have a SOA on a CJ using YJ springs?? How much lift did it yield??

Thanks A Lot

to give you the exact specifications on what a SOA would give you in ride hight would be almost imposible. Since it varies on what kind of springs are in your jeep right now. unless your the original owner of your jeep, i would'nt count on your jeep having stock springs. If you kept your stock springs it would net you the diameter of your axle tube plus the thickness of your springs. or about 5.5 to 7.5 inches. And as for using stock yj springs, which are nice, remember, that with so much up travel your gonna be hittin the inside rear wheel well of your jeep if you don't have a body lift and 33 or bigger tires.
I take it you've done your research allready and know that caster, brake lines and drive shafts are going to be modified, my friend is building a rear sway bar for his cj right now to stop body roll on the hwy. just another thing you might want to consider.

Thanks Coot,

I guess i phrased my question improperly. My question is how much less lift do STOCK YJ springs provide when installed on a CJ?? My CJ DOES have stock springs and they have quite a bit of Arch left. I noticed that YJ springs DO NOT have that much arch to begin with. My question is, will i be able to do a spring over with YJ springs instead of CJ springs so i can gain only 4-5" of lift instead of the 5-7" gained when using CJ springs??? I dont have a set of stock YJ springs here to measure and I would like to try to find out more info before i go buy a set.

Thanks for your time

we ran yj springs on a cj-5 with a spring over, d-44 front and d-60 rear..it flexed unreal..we had to put a 3" body lift so aired-down 36" swampers didn't rub at full articulation.i am pretty sure you could run 33's with plenty of room

i just did a soa on my 83 cj7 and used yj springs. the amount of lift i got was enough to clear 33"s with no rubbing and it looks like 35"s would fit fine. i think it ended up being about 5" of lift. Also yj springs came 4 leaf spring packs and 5. the five were used in the rear and the 4 in the front. the five in the rear were fine but the 4 in the front had even less arch and made the body not sit level. so i put in an add a leaf to correct it. this took care of the problem. if you can find 5 spring packs for both the front and rear i would use them! e-mail me if you want any advice or have any questions. we used the 5 leaf springs, but had a ford 351w, and t-18.. i think we took a leaf out of the rear too.. it flexed better, but we had to make locating bars to control axel wrap..it's hard to say how much lift you will end up with..we had 4" springsbefore that and i think it went up abot 2 more inches from that
