A question to other Nissan owners: how fast does your engine spin in top gear at 60 miles per hour? Earlier this year I bought a used Nissan which I believe has stock gearing, to compare with other Nissans I thought to ask on this BBS what your tach says at highway speed.

My 1995 Kingcab 4x4 with 3.0 V6, 5 spd, 4.38 axle, and 235/75R15 tires will spin at just shy of 3,000 rpm at 60mph in top gear.

This seems high. what does your truck do?

'96 King Cab 4x4, 4 cyl, 5-spd, 31" tires, stock 4.875 gears.

I run 3000 rpm at 60 mph. At 70 mph I pull about 33-3400. It seems high, but I guess that's just the way it's designed.

I drove an Expedition with the 4.6L / auto and it would cruise at 70 doing about 1800-2000 rpm. I don't get it.

As for the RPM on our trucks, it will be higher than the large displacement domestic engines. It is all in the gearing of the transmisions and differentials. They have much higher gears 3.5 to our 4.3 It is all about being near the powerband of the engine (somewhat below in top gear). Tires will also change your RPM because they change your effective gear ratio. As for the original post, your RPM sounds about right.
