Just kinda a poll question here, it seems that when I talk to people, most have had their Jeep 3 years or less. Anyway, we have one Jeep we've had for almost 3 years, and a bunch more that we've aquired since (we got the bug really bad), and I've seen the price on CJ's go up up up over the past 3 years.

Average ownership: 6 Years
Owned it less than 1 year: 11%
Owned it 1-3 years: 36%
Owned it 3-10 years: 30%
Owned it over 10 years: 23%

Wow - dont tell my boss I was spending time doing this /wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif

This 79 CJ5 I`ve had for about 1 1/2 years now and is basically a COMPLETE TOTAL REBUILD . I`m hoping it will see the road this summer . It`s tough owning a home( property taxes , house insurance , mortgage etc...) and have enough $$$$$$$$$$ to do the Jeep . You homeowners out there probably know what I mean . See the $ 1700.00 I have to fork out for property tax(SOON) would do nicely on the CJ , imagine the goodies I could buy /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif . Sometimes I wonder if it would be just better to have fun with my money instead of being responsible /wwwthreads_images/icons/tongue.gif

Just my .02

Jeff

PS . Just for reference , the prices on used CJ5`s around here , $ 5000.00 for a "restorable one" in fair shape . Lots of 7`s around for a reasonable dollar .

Lets see we got the xj in november 99 with the idea that it would be mine, dad liked it too much, that was our family's 1st jeep. Then we got the 95yj in september I totaled in in november, having my liscisne for all of 4 days. Going looking for another today, hopefully this one will last through college as a dialy driver/ weekend warrior so that means it will last for 6 years if I'm lucky.

Just under 1 year and very waking moment thinking on how I get my next upgrade/fix for the 40 mile a day driver. And of course 90% of my time at work reading this BBS

Well, the body and engine of the Scrambler I've had for about 4 years now (except for most of the body which is new), the tranny and transfer is 2 years, and the axles were 23 years (came off the Family's custom ordered '78 Scout II).

The TJ we got about 5 years ago, in 1996.

The Commando I got 3 years ago.

The Willys ('47) I also got 3 years ago.

87 wrangler. bought it new. so, what is that?? 14 years?? 15 years this july.
Took that 4.2 up to 237,000 miles, on the original oil..(not really, but there wasnt much that broke at all..) Then my mechanic dropped the engine and cracked the block... ARG!!! It was runnning better than ever.. So, now, my legacy is gone. And the new engine will be in the Jeep about 2 weeks.

Been almost a year for me and my '88. Got it nearly cherry for $3900 and after all my fixs and mods (say almost $2000), its worth about $3800, max.

I don't think any Jeep owner owns an Economics book. :)
