Short of draining all the fuel from the tank and refilling it back up,
How do I tell what size fule tank my 83 CJ 7 came with? From some research, they either had a 15 or approx. 20 gal. tank.

1. OEM 15 gal tank is metal.
2. OEM 20 gal. tank is plastic.
3 OEM 20 gal. tank skid plate is "Box",
4. That completely surrounds the tank,
5 The OEM 15 gal. tank skid plate,
6. Only covers the bottom, the sides are exposed,
7. And doesn't hang down as far.

Thanks Leve. Just what I needed. Looks like I have the 20 gal. tank.

In addition to what Leve said.... The 15 gallon tank is symetrical and the 20 gallon tank is much wider toward the front than it is in the back.
