I need to get the old ball joints out of my front end. They seem to be pressed in since they are stuck in there pretty good. A neighbor suggested using a floor jack and the weight of the Jeep to get them out, but they seem to swivel, so that might not work. Any suggestions would help.

I think they're pressed in. I'm not sure though? Maybe a pickel fork?

I just got through changing mine; they are pressed in from the top. You might be able to remove the old ones with BFH, but I wouldn't want to install new ones like that. Autozone has a balljoint press they "lend" out; you pay for the tool, bring it back and they refund your money. it's basically just a large c-clamp. Also Harbor Freight sells a tool http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/taf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=38926. It was an easy job with an impact gun.

that is just what I needed to know. I know with some force they will come out(I'm tossing the old ones anyway/wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif). I'll check out Autozone and see if I can get that tool.

um... just a reminder... ball joints have a "C" clip on the bottom to keep them in.. look close;ly at the bottom of the lower ball joint.

I'll second the recommendation of a press, used one recently to rplace the ball joints on my 44.

It took me (literally) 20 seconds to get the first one out, and that's with figuring out how to use it even.

My local parts place wanted $125 deposit on it, and I got it all back when I returned it.

Definitely worth it.
