I'm running a CJ external slave cylinder in my YJ (using the YJ clutch master cylinder.) Everything bolted together fine...I gravity bled the system (i probably used half a bottle of brake fluid) ... I cannot get the clutch to disengage completely. The pedal goes to the floor much easier than it used to...when you press the pedal in, you can see the slave cylinder pushrod move forward, but it doesn't disengage the clutch completely.

The soft/easy pedal would lead me to believe that it's air in my clutch line...Is there a better way to bleed the clutch system than just gravity bleeding it? Anybody else have any suggestion as to what it could be?

Thanks,
pablo

I always use the buddy system. or more like the jeep chick system. I open the line. she pushes the clutch down and holds it down. I close the line she lets the pedal up.

I do it the same way speed buggy does it, although you could get the appropriate sized "speed bleeder" like used for bleeding brakes. Are you using a CJ fork, or a YJ. There may be a difference in throw length.

General420 might have put his finger on it. Also there have been posts about the difficulty of bleeding the clutch slave. Some have said that you have to unbolt it and hold it so that the bleeder nipple is up to get the last drops of air out.

I'm using a CJ fork - the YJ uses an internal slave cylinder....I've got a CJ bellhousing, fork, etc, so that shouldn't be the problem. I'm going to try to have a friend help me today bleeding the system... we'll see.
