Hood removal

Couple of quick questions:
Is the hood supposed to lay up on the window shield when open?

When removing it, is it easier to pull the hinge pins, or the 3 screws, it seems if I pull the pins, it will line right back up when I put it back.

1) No, but I think just about everyone leans it against the windshield frame at least some of the time. There's supposed to be a prop rod under the hood, and a place to lock it in right by the radiator, on the driver's side.

2) Unless someone has modified your hinge pins, the bolts should come out much easier than the pins. I would look at the paint on the hood/body & the hinges. If the hinges are painted to the body/hood, you'll probably want to cut along the seam with a razor so you don't pull up chunks of paint with the hinges. That's why I'm taking the hinges off to paint.

On mine, there is a slot at the top of the hinge, the pin is not round but made to fit through the slot if the hood is opened up to a certain point. Use two people, unless you dont care about the body.

Yes, the earlier Jeepster had the easy open and remove hood:

forget to latch the hood + no safety latch + 50 mph down the road = hood flys off.

Us Jeepster guys open the hood and lay it against the windshield just to make the Commando guys jealous....

This is from memory (not a very good source). The hinges were from Tractor Supply and the Spacers were of Alum. As for dimentions for placement, I can help you. Maybe one of the other fellas that have done it will chim in.
Another photo (can't figure out how to put more than one on a post).
