Hi!
I have 2 old Honda FTX 250's, an '85 and '86. The '85 runs rough, and smokes all the time (black smoke) I bought the $48 Honda service manual, but can't find a way of adjusting the mixture- all I could find are the pilot screw adjustment and idle speed. Any help would..well...help! Thanks!

I'm afraid I'm ignorant as to the jets of a carb, but as to the mixture, I failed to mention that it's a four stroke... should I just take it to the dealer? I disassembled the carb and cleaned it, and that improved overall performance, but did nothing for the rich mixture. Is it poss. for a jet to 'wear out' over time? Thanks for the tips!

nope a jet wont wear out....if you take the bottom oiff the carb (after draining it first) you will see two little whole screw in thingies these are jets...one will be the main jet..should be bigger take it out and look at it...you will see a number on it..go to a dealer and ask for the next 1 or 2 sizes smaller...try them out and see if they work better..keep putting in a smaller one until it stops breaking up...correct me if i left anything out or said something wrong...
