Can anyone tell me how they constructed their homemade lift
shackles, I am looking for a 1"lift. Any thoughts or ideas
are or will be appreciated. I own a 1979 CJ7.

I have done this an almost all my Jeeps....I got some 2"x1/2" flat stock cut seven inches long. You will need 8 of these to do front and back. Have hole drilled 1/2 from end of each piece of stock. I usually by new grade 8 bolts at hardware store because old bolts are worn and too short. Try using 3/8 bolt. I usually got around 1 1/2 inch or a little more of lift with this....this seems to be about the most you will want to go so as not to affect the geometry of the front steering qualities. also remember not to tighten the bolts too much...just till the bushings start bulging slightly. To help with this I use Nylalock nuts. They are self locking. Hope this helps...If need anymore input on this email me. [email protected]

If I remember correctly, mine are 2" wide, 3/8" thick mild steel with 1/2" holes. I drilled three holes. Two for the attaching bolts and one for a center stabilizing bar. The stabilizer bar is a piece of round steel tube that is placed in between the two shackle halves. A bolt goes through the shackle halves and the tube. You have the bolt tight for the street, which helps keep the shackles from shifting around and causing bad handling. You lossen or remove the bolt for the trail to provide the most flex.

I found some truck lift shackles at one of the auto parts stores by my house. They were about twice as long as stock and had 3 holes in one end and 1 hole in the other. This made them adjustable for the desired height. They were about 1/4" flat stock and came with grade 5 bolts. I did not want any lift so I cut them in half and used the end w/3 holes for the front. The holes just happened to be spaced exactly the same as my stock shackles. I'll drill holes in the other half and use them in the rear, if I ever get to it. The kit was about 12 bucks and for me it ended up provided both front and rear replacement shackles. Probably not a lot of use to you, I'm just killing some time at work.
