Hole Fixed (Pic)

I knew my jeep had a hole in the floor when I got it, but didn't notice how large it was untill I pulled off the 5 layers of carpet (that was a good hint) the more layers, the more this guy just didn't want to see it.

I started with a piece of plywood that would fit the area, treated it to a nice close to body color spray paint. Used boat grade resin to harden the wood.

Prepaired the area by filing down the metal, and layed down the wood, and matched it with 3-4 layers of weave fiberglass. I tried to add a layer of matting on the top, but that didn't go so well.

I've since added herculiner (pictures coming soon) and it's hard to even see the hole. It was a nice alternative to welding since
-I don't know how to weld
-don't know anyone that does
-cost was a big priority
wood $3
resin $19
fiberglass $18
total ~$50

i'm pushing it right now with 30's. The guy use to run 31's and rubbed the flares down in the center, pretty funny to see. It'll have carpet soon anyway, I just didn't like the prospect of stopping like fred flinstone....

how do you think it will hold up to the flex when crawlin? and the cold? I used fiberglass to fix the rear quarters on a 73 plymouth I restored ... they held up well untill winter came and some Ahole kicked them in (they cracked realy bad) I also did a small hole on the top of the front fender the twist of the car when you'd lay into it would constantly crack it.

Another possibility if you can't weld (I can't either) is what I did. Trim the rusted area, treat with rust inhibitor, make a matching plate of thicker guage sheet metal just a little larger than the affected area. Since I used weldable steel sheet (maybe weld it later), I then hammerited both sides of the plate. Goop up the edges with RTV, and pop-rivet into place. Since I was Durabak'ing at the same time, I chose to also run a coat of that over the top so it would look uniform. Turned out pretty well.

hmmm.... 18 + 3 = 21 + 19 = $40... Vietcha, where did the other $10 go? was it for the beer while you were working on your Jeep?

....interesting.... :)
