Need feedback on FlowKooler High Flow Water Pumps , I have a 78 CJ5 with a stock 304 ,that needs a water pump . FourWheel Drive Hardware has stock pump for $40 or a Flowkcooler High Flow for $90. Is it worth the different ? Is it dependable ? Will it cause other problems ? Thanks for your help , ken

Not sure about those brands but autozone carries the stock pump for less than $40 and they have a high flow optional for $79 and lifetime warranty. Just another option.

Can you fix it?
I got a welder and a grinder. Heck yeah I can fix it./wwwthreads_images/icons/cool.gif

Put the hiflo pump plus the larger opening termostat on a 351w in a willys. Helped keep things cool on the hiway but didn't help when crawling off road. my theory is that the coolent moves thru the radiator so fast it doesn't have a chance to cool off? Put 4 row radiator and huge truck fan on to solve problem.

Put a FlowKooler pump on both my 252 Buick V-6 and 350 Buick V-8 powered Jeeps and have no complaints. I believe their big plus is that they move more water at the lower rpms and taper off at the higher rpms. Other high flow pumps continue to increase output as rpms increase and move the water too fast at higher rpms, at least for those that don't have race engines.

/wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif OOOKKaayyyy......you wanna hear something really wild from a crazy old former race car builder and someone who was real good at figuring out how to keep stubborn engines cool? Well....here is my theory when it comes to 304's....brace yourself, this is WAYYYY out there/wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif After inspecting the stock pump on out 304, it is MY contention that the BY-PASS is too damn big/wwwthreads_images/icons/frown.gif. Remember, small block Chevy's don't even HAVE a by-pass, they use the heater loop to do the work. In the 304, there is a HUGE port on the water pump that hooks to the thermostat housing, and a HUGE port that sucks outa the heater circuit. BOTH of those ports RECIRCULATE hot water back to the block. Weird guy that I am; and really stubborn too; I am ELIMINATING the by-pass per se, and sending the water to the heater FROM THE OUTLET ON THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING.....and bringing it back into the HEATER INLET on the water pump. I am capping off the top small outlet on the water pump. I have a hole drilled in the thermostat so accumulated air can bubble through and go upstairs to the radiator tank, and the rest of the by-pass water will thread it's way through the double heaters we have installed in the SNOJEEP, and back to the small side inlet of the water pump. How's THAT for tweaking the factory design/wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif
