Hi I just started rebuilding my 73 cj5 from the ground up. I got this jeep from my Dad whom I had helped build it to what it is now. Up till now I knew very little about jeeps (what upgrades, convertion, and interchangeability) In the last few weeks I have learned alot just from reading your postings and replys but still have a lot of questions. But that is why I am here.

My cj5 has a amc 390, t-15, d-20 transfer, dana 30 front w/power lock, 44 rear w/track lock, ramsy pto front, warn electric rear. I striped it down to the frame and started getting thing lined up on what I would like to do. This is where I need help for you guys. I would like to convert to a 4 speed and keep my d-20 because of the pto. But with limited space I am not shure on what tranny to go with? I have read about the ford t-18 6.32-1 but not shure on convertion length. Also the hard to find jeep t-18. I would appreciate any feed back. I also need info on where to find dana 44 w/disc to change out the 30. I heard the 77-80 scout axle cut down is the way to go. Suspention is also a big question. Right now I have to the stock tall pack springs w/13 leafs fornt and 11 rear. It has a hole made revesal kit that rasies about 2". It also has a 2" body lift. Should I go SOA with different springs or just a u bolt reversal? Any info would be great. I am working on getting you guys some pics. Thanks

Hopefully you will get much more detailed replies than mine but maybe this will get you started.
I think the Ford T-18 will be your best bet. Availability and price should be much better than the Jeep T-18. Check here for info on length http://www.off-road.com/jeep/tech/convtrans/convt18.html
77-80 Scout axles are only a couple inches wider than wide track CJ axles. Instead of cutting them down I would add caster angle and go. I am slowly in the process of this swap now. Waggie fronts have better caster but may be harder to find with passenger drop and are a little wider than the scouts.
I would definitely go spring over. Especially since you live in Colorado.
If you give a little more info on what you expect from your vehicle (wheeling wise), the smart guys around here will inundate you with info.

Ford T18 is about three inches longer overall. I did this a few months back, and the new shaft in front was three inches longer. The T18 is a little longer than the T15, and then a 1 inch spacer between the the transmission and transfer case.
I would say yes on the SOA, but thats only my opinion, depends on what the Jeep is going to be used for.
