Re: Hey Toad!!

Re: Hey Toad!!

Yeah, runs fine without vacuum, but I wish I knew what it did. Vacuum doesn't open a passage between the 2 ports. Nothing ever opens to anything else. If I knew what it was SUPPOSED to do, I would either ignore it or know what's plugged up, etc. One hole is ported directly to the fuel side of the accelerator pump. The other is just a hole through the body into the float bowl. Don't know if the barb is for vacuum or a vent. Thanks for the help.

Steve.

wow. i'm not familiar with the 2150 but it looks like a late model version of the 2100. that relief valve is probally part of the emmisions junk on it. who knows what it does, hell the designers probally don't even know, it's something the EPA said had to be there and bam, there it is. whay again did'nt you get a 2100? i know you don't need a throtle pos sensor

Re: Hey Toad!!

I thought I got a 2100 'til I figured out THAT thing was there. I just went to the junkyard and started popping hoods until I found one with the 1.08 venturi. All the trucks had been robbed in 8 junkyards, except the ones with the 1.21 venturi. Opened the hood on a Mercury Marquis station wagon and found a pristine carb that smelled like it had been driven that day and had the 1.08 on it.

If you've ever seen Bubba's M block site, he's got a lot of useful info on 2100s and 2150's. He's an advocate of the 2150, but doesn't say anything about this one.

I like the carb- has full electric choke with vacuum pull-off. Chunked the TPS before I did anything else. My friend has a 2100 on his 258 and there's no real difference, except the choke and THIS thing. I guess I'll stick something in it to plug it and wait for something to blow.

Thanks,
Steve.

Re: Hey Toad!!

funny you should mention that. 2100's are bad for flooding out when hitting a bump accesending a steep hill. there is a cheep and easy fix. what happens is that the fuel splashes up through the 2 bowl vents, witch are right next to the vetries. the fix is to get a short piece of vacum hose, cut a small hole in the middle, not all the way through, just one side, and shove the 2 ends in the vent tubes, with the hole facing up. make sure it clears the air cleaner cover. the other thing i do is run the float level about half. 2100's arn't real particular about float level, so no worries there. if you guys don't already know, i'm a big fan of the 2100. they wook good, last along time, very simple, and they work better than fuel injection, if set up correctly. i have had the toad completly on it's side more than once and the thing never missed a beat. the only thing it won't do is run upside down. i hear people say that about FI all the time, so if that is your requirement, stay away from the autolite/motorcraft.

Re: Hey Toad!!

Well, OK, there's another difference I forgot about. Mine doesn't have the bowl vents into the air horn. It's got a single external vent right above that pesky "relief valve" that would go to a charcoal canister. Haven't decided what I'll be doing there yet. I left the float almost a sixteenth low for the reason you were talking about, and because that was where it was. Maybe I'll lower it.
The Carter AFB that was on it went lean and rich every other bump.

Re: Hey Toad!!

sounds like your bowl vent placement is in the perfect spot. if you still have the charcoal canister, run it to it, if you don't, i've got one i'll let you have. they are also good for running all your vent lines to, axles, tranny ect.

Re: Hey Toad!!

FWIW, the 2150 is a "high altitude" version of the 2100...

My bud Brent has one on his 304. The only differences I can see is an additional block at the rear to enrich/lean it for altitudes. The pic Steve posted looks the same except for the TPS added for computer control.

And I'll ditto Toads statements about the 2100...besides being a pretty good offroad carb, a 5 year old can rebuild them without instructions!

Re: Hey Toad!!

Caver, judging from the other megasquirt post, you will be dumping the 2100. Are you going to be dumping on my workbench? Then I can get rid of the pesky Holley.

Will it fit with an adapter to an Offenhauser intake?

Re: Hey Toad!!

Well, it may be "quite some time" before I have a chance to work on it. Honestly, could be a year or 2...

Still have to get all the trees up from the back yard (cut about 18 down), get my half
of the garage straight so I can get the Moss in for new front leafs, change ALL the fluids, cage, etc. before URE in April...
