Hey everyone. Thank you to everyone on the help with the fuel pump problem on my truck. It is running great now.

The help that I need is pictures. I am currently working on a 3D model of the 80 series K10 in 3D Studio. It started as a model of a 2 wheel drive that I found on the internet. If you check out my website the link for the 4x4 section is the original model. I was going to change it to the 88-98 bodystyle to match my truck but since my wife wants a truck that can seat 4 relatively comfortably, I have thought about getting a K5 92 or older. What I need is some good pictures to use as references to get it looking right. I can post a picture of what I have now but it is still a truck but the front ends are the same. I preferably need a GMC front end since this is what I will hopefully get.
No need to comment on my decision on what to buy but if you like go ahead. It will still be a year or so before I trade off my truck. I just want to go about the same year I have but with a solid axle. To much baby stuff to buy before 4x4 parts to switch to a solid axle on my truck.

So start sending the pictures please. If you don't want to post due to file size, you can e-mail the photos to my e-mail account "cirric@tvi.cc.nm.us. I will be entering this model in a contest and if I can get it done in time maybe even an animation of it four wheeling. Thanks in advance.

Re: I need some help for a project.

I want to clear up that the body was actually designed by someone else who I don't know the name of. I will be doing some redisign work on it but using this one as a template. That way it will be my design not someone elses that I used. The original was found on 3dcafe.com's website under their freebee stuff.

Re: I need some help for a project.

I am doing this at TVI Community college and we only have 3D Studio Vis. I have Max R3 but my computer can't run it yet. Maybe next year I'll have a new computer.

Re: I need some help for a project.

Thanks for the help 90K5. You have a nice K5. I also went over to ColoradoK5 for some of their pictures. I will have to redesign the body of the previous model because for some reason it keeps crashing our machines at work. The only thing left now is the rims and tires I designed. So now I get to do a lot of stuff from the ground up.

One other question for you guys with K5's. What is the width of the body? I have found most of the other dimensions except that one. Please Help.

Re: I need some help for a project.

When you do get a new computer and if you don't mind putting it all together yourself,Buying all the part's(processer,Motherboard,RAM etc)yourself and putting it together yourself can save you a TON of money sometimes!!
When I did this about a month and a half ago I used the auctions herehttp://www.egghead.comAnd ended up with 256MB's of SDRAM a 900Mhz AMD Athlon processer and a Motherboard for about 350 smackers too my doorstep!!! I also had too buy a new case for it but you may not have too do this depending on what you upgrade too and how old your current computer is.
Hope this rather off-topic info helps you/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif.

See ya later.

Re: I need some help for a project.

I wouldn't mind building my own but the wife doesn't like the idea. I have a P1 now and buy the time I could afford a new one I should be able to get a P4. I need a lot of proccessor speed and ram for working with 3D Studio and AutoCAD 2000. But if I can start buying pieces here and there maybe I can talk her into it.

Here is a picture of the rim and tire for my K5 project. I know the sidewall lugs are a little too big but it is very hard to get everything to proper size when you can't actually measure the tire.

Re: I need some help for a project.

Just a little more food for thought a 1.2Ghz Athlon just beat out a P4 1.5Ghz in head too head testing on CNET heres the linkhttp://computers.cnet.com/hardware/0-1018-7-4852624.html?tag=st.co.1016-bhed.1018-7-4852624. I'm not trying too say you should go with an Athlon over a P4 witch is a damn good processer,Just giveing you something too think about.

Re: I need some help for a project.

Get a Tbird.. they're heck of a lot cheaper and just as good if not better that them Pentiums....
If you wanna build yer own computer, www.pricewatch.com is the BEST website you can use.. .. just Dont buy generic crap. You save money at first but its not worth the hastle that often comes with it.

BTW: looks like you have the self illumination on your white letters a bit high..... maybe drop that to 0 and add 2 more lights... good luck

Re: I need some help for a project.

I just finished building mine again. I built a Athlon 1.2Ghz system and overclocked it. 1 Gig of ram and a 20 something gig hd. 200Mhz front side bus as well. I built this beast just for Acad 2000. Rendering a 200 megabyte drawing with a celeron 266 (what i had) takes a little time. I built this whole thing for 500 bucks using http://www.pricewatch.com

How do you like the power pulleys on your truck? I heard they cause the engine accesories to wear out quicker. Have you had this problem?

Thanks Peacock,
I'm kind of piecing it together from different trucks I found on the net and ones that were sent to me by guys on this board. The bumpers are off that Green K5 on coloradok5's site. I think that is where I got it from. I'm going to be finishing up the front bumper today and adding the tire carrier to the rear also and maybe the floor pan.

Once I get everything done I will be putting an actual background for the final render. I will try to kick up the lighting a little more so you can see it better. Eventually I will try to do an animation of it four-wheeling.

Well I had some problems with the computers at work so I will not be putting any more pictures up for awhile. I had to change some stuff around on the drawing to get the file to open. It is a problem we are trying to fix but who knows. I did get some renders done today and will be putting them on my website soon because they are starting to get rather large and I don't want to fill up the board with pictures. I will try getting them up today but I have to redesign the website a little first. I will let you guys know when I update it. The rolling frame is starting to look really good.

do you have some sort of a geometric wave ling for the components so that you can change the size of one thing and the rest changes too? I use UNIGRAPHICS here at michigan state and it works like that. you'd be able to buils it with full-sized specs then scale down to an S-10. it wouldn;t be exact, but it's be pretty close.

Hey Peackock,

I'm using 3D Studio Vis R3 here at our Community Colloge where I work. We have Dell p3 550 and I'm using a machine that we bumped up to 256M ram for IT and Teacher projects. Right now I can't open the file that I have everything drawn in. That is why I won't be posting anymore pictures after these for awhile. I also don't have access to my website to put the pictures on it either. I will be trying to model out the rest by merging it into separate drawings so I can continue to work on it. Hopefully I can get a new computer at home soon so I can use the 3D studio Max R3 I have now to finish it. Well until the next update.

yeah, our system works kinda the same if i understand yours. we can make many many parts in seperate files, then combine them into a new file and assemble them in relation to others. i built a 4-brace hand clamp a few weeks ago in it. it was cool. when i would rotate the handle, the jaws would clamp shut accordingly. it is simply amazing what we have the ability to do. I hope everything works out for you not this.
For our final exam in the class I"m taking we have to disassemble a closed face fishing real and use the micrometer to measuer all parts. then we have to construct the parts on the computer, assemble them, assemble them in an exploded view, and animate it. on top of all of that, the parts need to be linked to one another so that if one part changes size, the rest of them will change accordingly. definately gonna be spending some time i nthe old computer lab at the enginering building. isn;t it a grand life we life

I finally got the web page updated with the last renders I got done. I now have the file up again but it takes about 10 minutes to load but it's still a pain to get running.

Well enjoy.
