Wife didn't hand me divorce papers...this is a bonus. Got the "new" pick up. Took the wife and 2 yo Jr for a ride to lunch. Looked real White Trash with the car seat in the middle.

Anyhow, I am really into this truck and it's potential. It's a 3/4 with a long bed. I measured the rear springs eye to eye. Only 52"s. That's odd for a 3/4 isn't it? The bed's pretty well hammered and I don't know if it will make it. Underneath is clean as a whistle. Small leak in either the tranny or transfer tho.

I'd like recommendations on headders(sp?) I think the 350 engine has some life left, so I can divert the rebuild money elsewhere. I plan on running 35's on a 4" lift. I am willing to trim if it's not a problem.

What I'd like for intel is:

1. Recommendation on hedders and exhaust
2. I am leaning towards a BDS 4" front and maybe trying the shackle flip stuff in the tech archives depending on $$$$
3. If I trim fenders, is it just the bottom 1/3 or so that will rub and if so are there flares molded to accomodate larger than stock openings? I looked at the Warn and the are my first preferrance. No exposed bolt holes.

Sorry for the ramble, any help is welcome as it's my first Chevy. I didn't grow up turning wrenches and seeing what makes the toaster work like most of y'all, but I am willing to try and learn.

My computer is giving me big balls. I live in Poe Dunk, New Mexico and am hooked up and running at 28,000 Jiggawatz. Talk about waiting forever. This was the third writting of the above post before I got one to "stick".

Vehicle is a 1983 Chevy 20 3/4 ton 4X4 longebed with a 350, SM 465 and NP208.

Hedder selection would probably be the best advice, as I am fairly familiar with most lift kits.

Are there Pro's and Con's to dual exhaust and hedders?? Vehicle is to be used as an everyday hunting rig and should be dependable with less focus on HP and more on wheeling.

as far as headers go, the best advice I can give you is spend the extra money to get coated or stainless. regular ones will rust out somewhat quickly, within two years in my experience.
I like Dynomax because of their warranty, they offer a lifetime warranty that covers rust on their coated headers.

My guess is he has a frustrating time with his PC due to his Dial-Up connection of 28.0 Kbps. Also, he lives in quaint little town in New Mexico, where everybody know's your name.

Funny thing is, I have a Dial-Up connection that also maxes out at 28.0 Kbps....and I live in a Podunk farming town in WA.

What I mean to say, in other words..... quitchyerbitchin.....

On headers ....... NO! if your focus is wheeling and reliability don't get headers at all for the same money as headers and new exhaust you can get an edelbrock performer cam and intake which will wake up your 350 way better than headers ........ stock manifolds on a 350 with 10:1 compression and and stock heads with 1.94 /1.50 valves and the afore mentioned dyno'ed at 375 HP and propelled my lowered ext cab S-10 to 168mph + (acording to the OH state highway patroll...oops) ..... Also it really sucks when you mangle a header off road

Think of a motor like a funnel. No matter what you put into it you will only get out what the exhaust will allow.

I would say headers are the first thing you want to upgrade. If you are worried about snagging them then get shorties or skid plates. The cons are higher engine compartment temps, more noise, and they do tend to leake more than stock manifolds. I have heard of poeple boaring out they're stock manifolds but dont know if the results are worth the expence.

Dual exhaust is a must either way. If you plan to do many mods on this then use 2 1/2" pipes with flomasters. My header choice would be small primaries to improve low end grunt such as Hooker Comps or if your on a budget try those new Afterburn headers. If you can fin a good exhaust shpo have them put in an H-pipe to make it quiter.
