OK, this is strange. when I go from park to drive or reverse to drive my jeep tries to die. (or does) but It runs fine other then that. It doesn't stumble or try to die at all after that until I change gears again...... the only thing that I can figure that is causing it is I was messing with my air cleaner (test fitting a cold air system) and capped off a line running from the air intake tube to the recovery canister. could this be it?

Did you mess with the idle air control (IAC) motor? Capping off the vent to the recovery canister isn't a good idea, the engine uses these unburned fuel gasses as part of the emissions system. Capping off the port could cause the vehicle to vaporlock. Are the vacuum lines clean, or are they rotted?
