I dont know much about Prestolite ignitions or earlier 258s so my article reflects that lack of knowledge. After you are done with the HEI mod and you have info that might help others with your similar setup, let me know and I'll add it to my page.
The key for you will be finding a suitable 12 volt source during crank and run. Make sure there is no resistance in the wire.
Good luck... it really is an easy mod once you get into it.
Larry you set back watching me pulling out my hair looking for your site.
You were laughing were'nt you? LOL/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif
BTW great write-up helped me get mine on.
Don't you just hate when you mess up putting the wires back on(WHAT THE H*LL WAS THAT BIG BANG!)/wwwthreads_images/icons/tongue.gifThats what I get for letting my neighbor "help"(get in my way)me.
I did the HEI swap in a '75 with the Prestolite and it was as straightforward as with the Duraspark. It was probably easier as there were fewer wires to get confused with while trying to find out which is the power source. If you would like, I can find out what the differences are and leave you a private message on what wire is power, etc..
