In having this all in one, is this better than having a stock distributor and an upgraded coil. My problems are 1) It's time for a new distributor, the ORIGINAL, is shot. I can't keep my timing, and I'm having to the springs for advance about once a year. 2) I don't think I'm burning my mixture well.
Both the HEI and Motorcrap systems consist of matched components. Each system is only as good as it's weakest component. The Motorcraft module will not be able to feed enough juice to an upgraded coil to see much gain.
The bottom line is the HEI is a vastly superior system and for the price I highly doubt there is a better modification that can be made.
If you're not in a pollution state, I'd get an HEI in a minute. You can do it for less than $100. If you still have timing problems you can address that later.
