Dude, the weber's not $700, more like $350 if you can install it yourself. Your other options for the carb are a pre-computer carter 2 bl., a motorcraft something or other, a holley 2100-series, or something like that... There are a few options. I don't know which ones will mount DIRECTLY on. I still say if you're looking to improve on what you've got, a NEW weber is the way to go. If you want to chase used parts from a junkyard, and play with linkages, hoping it will run better in the end, great, but my expereince has shown that is simply spending a lot of time to roll the dice on something that is usually no better that what you've got.
Wrangler, 87-90 with 258 have a passenger side exhaust system, due to the NP231 drivers side drop transfer case. CJs have a Dana300 passenger drop, so the exhaust is routed along the drivers side. This would make the output of the header, and the pipes that come with it, different.
