Has your Jeep injured you? O/T

The other day I was pulling the transmission out of my Jeep and at somepoint it decided to come out by itself and fall off the jack. The transfer case took a chunk out of my hip (I know that I'm not the brightest crayon in the box). It could've been worse though, the whole dang thing could've hit me or it could've broke the $400 bellhousing. Anyway my question is: What has your Jeep done to injure you?

My jeep was infinitely-disieling (had the ignition key in hand), and I needed to get the engine to stop.
I reached in to yank off the plug wire from coil to distributor.... And found myself doing the "electric bogalou" for a good second and half! :)
Left a good memory too... I get nervous around plug wires ever since.

I also joined the ranks of people who nearly dropped a tranny onto themselves.

As the saying goes... May fortune favor the foolish.

I can do it on pavement with the front hubs locked. I don't have lockers, so it kind of bounces between lefts and rights spinning, but it does it. I have stock really low gears, which are 5.38:1, which was standard in 1955. The original top speed was 60 mph, before I put in an overdrive and a V6. I have 31" older skinny tires, (7.50-16) and my engine has a really big flywheel. 50 lbs, I think. You don't really need to give it gas to get going from a dead stop in first gear high range. My 1st gear 4L speed is about 0.75 mph with the engine idling at 500 rpm. I have a pre-emissions engine and have it tuned really well, and it produces lots of off- idle torque. The engine will keep firing even when you lug it down to about 100 rpm, but I don't do this because the oil pressure starts to drop off.

I was taking off the passenger side mirror to paint it. I didn't realize that the rubber trim was missing... The wrench slipped and the top of the base of my thumb slammed into the razor sharp metal edge. 6 stitches later it was put back together. It's now 7 months later and I still have a numb streak all the was down my thumb. The offending mirror is still on the floor of the garage.

So far my Jeep has not got much blood out of me just scraps and $cash$. I have got a little brused up and sore from the trails, but that is just part of the fun.

This is a story of what a friends Jeep did to him with a little help from a cow. He was driving home one night on a twisty road and while going around a curve ran squarly broadside into a cow that had gotten loose. Well the cow and the Jeep both lost on this one. He wound up in a ditch awake, but unable to really move. Turns out the front driveshaft had broken off in the crash and part of it impaled itself a few inches into his back and then came out, fortunately missing vital areas. They took him to the hospital and had to open him up from the middle of his stomach to the middle of his back to explore and clean out grease and dirt. He recovered fine. The Jeep and cow were both a total loss. I hope my jeep never hurts me that bad.

Yes, I have had my wallet hurt, skinned knuckles, jammed fingers, you know all the usual things and a broken finger from an impact gun falling off the tire. Luckily my finger prevented damage to the impact gun and the floor.

I was cleaning up my hardtop getting ready to paint it and I removed the back hatch, of course the bolts snapped off in the hardtop so I began to drill them out, got a couple done and tapped when on the last one the bit went thru the top and into my wrist on the backside. Now that you've all got the willies it was pure stupidity and didn't do any lasting damage.

Today, my blood thirsty machine claimed just short of a pint of blood from me. Pretty sure it was my stupidity and not the Jeeps fault this time, but none the less, it hurt.

I was replacing my valve cover today and had cleaned the mountain of RTV of the head with a razor blade. At the point that it was clean, the razor slipped out of my hand and I thought I heard it hit the ground, so didn't pay to much attention after that. Anyhow, an hour later, a washer slipped out of my hand and landed on top of the starter. I could see it and reached down to grab it.. Low and behold, the razor, which I couldn't see was sitting right next to it and well, I opened my right index finger to the bone... Probably should have gotten stitches, but the father in law has a way with crazy glue.

Aside from the normal bruised and busted knuckles, this is the worst blood letting injury I have had. The sad thing is I know that more injuries are coming, I just don't know when.

My Jeeps have been pretty kind to me and I just bought a pair of M-Pact mechanix gloves to try and keep it that way. I got smacked down by my buddy's Scout once. We were putting a body lift on the old girl and my floor jack wouldn't get up high enough to safely lift the rear of the tub. So I had the grand idea of using my hi-lift off the tire carrier bracket to lift it up. Well the bracket decided to bend right when I bent down to put in the puck. The jack spit out and hit me right square in the head. I was seeing double for a few hours and missed work for a day, but I recovered fine/wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif.

Then there was a fun expirence with my first road vehicle. A $20 Honda Express Moped. I spun it to check the spark and found out that I could be a ground as well. I did a funny dance and couldn't feel my arm for a while. Then there were simular expirences with my HEI ignited spud gun.

It sound like most of the stories were of people who started the Jeep from outside. I'll have to keep that in mind. I love that one of the guy who got run over by his own Jeep.
