My girlfriend heard me hint about a specific Delta drill press that I wanted for Christmas. I showed her the ad and everything but I end up with a
Harbor Freight one that she had her dad pick up.
I was glad to hear BobcatSteve say they have a good warranty. I have not even taken the shrink wrap off of it.
Can anyone say anything good about it?

Hehe, my wife does that every
time. She got me a BLACK AND DECKER sawzall for Christmas! Doesn't seem too bad, but that's not the point. My father-in-law just retired from teaching wood shop, and he probably uses a drill press more than anybody (mostly on wood, of course). He has one, and it's been holding up a couple years now. He never bought any shop tools when he taught, 'cause he had 'em all at work. Come to think of it, my mother-in-law bought him that HF press......Hmmmmmmm......

I have a 10" benchtop model from Harbor Freight that I bought almost 10 years ago. Still works fine. I use it for alot of woodworking and let the motor run for 15 to 30 minutes at a time when I'm using the drum sander.

oh almost forgot. There isn't a US compnay that makes a drill press in the US anymore. They all moved off-shore to china in the 90's. The big difference is the sepcs that they hold the factory to. Delta even changed their line last year and dropped their prices. Not sure what that means, but it's not usually a good indication of a quality increase.
PS: I sell tools for a living.

I've been buying HF for years! As long as you're not a contractor and useing(abusing) the tools day in day out, they last. They sell GOOD cheap Chinese tools is the best way to describe it.

RQ, I've had the HF $50 drill press for a couple of years now and it is holding up great for my fab work and lift kit installation side work. Keep sharp bits and it will do the job every time.

I have the bench model and my father in law has the floor model ..... they drill holes .... what else can I say? They would never last in a production shop but ok for the hobist. Motor isn't very big and you can bind it up easy. But a sharp bit and it does ok (only ok).

Hmmm a girl friend that buy you tools, may be a keeper!
