Groovin\' baby, groovin\'.......

Well I had a set of 35" Mud King that sucked in the winter, but I needed them to reduce tha RPM's for my 1.6.
So I took out the GRS1 (till spring silly
) and bought a groover and went to work. I wasn't sure what to do so I winged it like usual. I started by doing the center lug and then I got ADDICTED!!!!!
So here's what they look like......
Groovy tires

The results are great on snow and ice. Made a big difference in traction and I'm sure in mud and rock it will be good as well.....

As you will notice the tires are about 40-50% worn, but I would do it in a heartbeat to brand new ones !

So you feel it is worth the work? How long did it take?

I feel it is was well worth it for my situation (snow & ice). It would take about 1/2-1 hou each tire depending on the size of your BICEPS..

Oh I have big biceps already, I just now got power steering. I've been riding two years without it on 33's. I look like Popeye!

How many blades did you use to do 4 tires ? I want to groove my Mtrs and the racemart groover looks like a good deal .Nice work though , are you going to do the inner lugs ?

I use one #5 for the inner lugs and 1 #4 for the outer.
The inner lugs are cut in half , but I was thinking of doing a diagonal cut every second one....but I'm trying to kick the habit...lol

I have the same siper/groover and I got mine from pitstopusa without trouble. Price was around the same, too.

I have only done one tire with it so far and I just siped it. I have been thinking of doing a groove or two, also. I am doing a set of 30" Bridgestone Dueler MTs with about 95% tread on them.

It is not too hard but it is tedious work. You want to go fast, but you need to go slow enough to let the iron heat the rubber and then the blade pushes right through easily. The faster you try to go the harder it is because the rubber is too hard.

It is kinda of addictive, though. After doing jsut that first tire I found myself looking at all the tires on all my vehicles and thinking about how I could "improve" them
