Hi all,

That whole "TeamRush" debacle contained a couple of interesting posts in which JEEPN and a couple others quoted their grandfather's pearls of wisdom. Anyone else got a good one to share?

My grandpa always used to say, "Use your smarts and give your dumb a rest."

My grandfather used to talk to himself on occasion, and if it was brought to his attention that he was talking to himself he would
reply, "I just needed someone intelligent to talk to!"

My hillbilly grandpa used to say,
"It's nice to be important, But more important to be nice."
Looks like I didn't learn that one very well either...

When a fool and a wise man argue, Onlookers can't tell the difference...
One great memory I have of my Tennessee Grandpa is when we would visit,he would always take us down to the river to go catfishing. He would say "Don't pick up any sticks". Why, you ask? Well there are cottonmouths around there and he didn't want his "Yankee" grandkids picking up a snake by mistake. Still, he always brought along his rifle in case we couldn't resist trying!!!/wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif/wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif He also made sure we knew how to properly pick up a catfish to avoid being "finned"(but that is another story)/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

I hope his intentions were to shoot theSNAKE instead of us. /wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif

My grandfather used to ask me, "Are you absolutely sure I'm an grandfather?" /wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif Nah, he really didn't do that, but I'm sure he felt like it more than once.

How about:

"Use your head for something besides a hat rack."

or "Two heads are better than one even if one of them is a Knothead"

I never was sure which one of us he was referring to. I could guess, tho.

Granfather used to say: "Son, if you kill something, you'd damn well better be prepared to eat it."

My pappy always said:

"Jon, if you can't be happy in life, at least be rich about it!" Still working on the rich part...

My FIL (Father-in-law) still says:

"She's uglier than a mud-fence in the sun".... We're still trying to figure out how ugly that is!!!

The greatest words of wisdom I've yet to receive from my grandfather is quite a simple phrase, yet very true to life... "Wish in one hand, sh*t in the other... see which gets filled up first." --think about it

I always liked what my old Pa told his new boss, " I don't give a damn if you HAVE been doing it that way for 30 years, your doing it WRONG!"

How about this one:

"Son, God gave you two ends to use in this life: one to think with, the other to sit on. Your success in life will depend on which one you use the most. Heads you win, tails you lose."

And the one that confuses the heck out of me to this day:

"Things work out best for those who work things out the best they can with the way things work out."

well, my gramps always told me.. to "never trust a man that doesnt have scars on his hands.." and when i did anything dumb.. which was quite often.. well still might be.. he would just tell me.. "it will give you character.." i have more character than trump has cashola..

survival is instinct, but living takes guts

When I was around 10 years old and I was hanging out with the kid next door and whenever we would get into trouble his Ma would threaten to cut our water off.
Never knew what that meant and never hung around to find out.

Everyone,

Granpa read that thread, HE SAID "Only fools argue, A wise man will usually keep silent" AND, "You'd be surprised what onlookers can tell"
later.

If there's two scoops per box, how many flakes per raisin?
