Gone for weekend

Gotta go pick up my '81 CJ-5 I bought off rkcrawl this weekend, then I'm doing a SOA on a different CJ-5 using a spare Scout II axle I have laying around, never even met the guy except on the BBS. Sounds like a nice guy though, so I don't mind helping him out. I'll take pics as the axle will be 4" wider per side in the rear, we're keeping the same front axle for now.

So if anyone is looking for me, I won't have internet access (I'm headed to our house in the Midcoast Maine area) so I won't be able to respond to any E-mails or derogatory remarks. Take care all.

Ya, you know what we all think. lol (j/k)

Um, U wana drive up to Canada and help me install a pair of D44's under my wrangler.
I'll go get the lunch while you do it.
At the same time we can go SOA, put that cage in, fix the carb, do the onboardair. tire carrier? bumper if we have time?
Sounds like a deal.
I'll be expecting you.

Wel, if you want to come down here *WE* can knock it out in a weekend.

Archie is a decent guy, never met him before but I'm glad to say my initial assessment wasn't wrong. He's also a hard worker, I've *helped* people do a lot of axle swaps, fabrications, welding, etc, and usually end up doing all the work while the sit back and drink all the beer. Not Archie, he jumped right in with both feet and smiled every inch of the way. We didn't finish until 2AM yesterday, and still have to redo the brakes.

Jeep looks good, he's one of the few people that actually WHEELS it and doesn't care at all about the body or looks. He's smiling every time he has to get into it now, because it's TALL. He's coming up this weekend (I can't leave and go anywhere due to work), and we're going to finish up the brakes and do some other items.

It was a great time, I love wrenching, but it beat the crap out of me. I wonder why I'm feeling sick, it may have something to do with 13 hours of sleep in 3 days, driving 700 miles, all the cuts, burns, and scrapes, inhaling enough welding smoke to make me think I smoked a carton of cigarettes, eating enough dirt to add a pound or two, wearing enough dirt to fill a sandbox, and figuring out that brake fluid, saliva, and beer create a violent, foaming action in your mouth.

Yep, it was a good weekend.

Yes, it was on Archie's CJ-5. Looks great. We have some minor issues to finish this weekend though, he's going to tow it up here where we can complete it, and maybe do a few other things like add tow hooks, rear tire carrier, and the bikini top I gave him that was in the red jeep.

The CJ-5 towed home from Mike & Jeanne's Ok, we had to stop because one drum was getting hot, like too hot to touch, so we pulled off the drum on the side of the highway, and it wheeled home fine after that. I was surprised, it's heavier than the Zuk (how much does rust weigh?) and it flat towed better.

I thought I was going to get stopped for littering on the way home, pieces of rust kept falling off it. Overall it went well though, sides flapping in the breeze and all. My older brother was drooling over it last night, or this morning rather, at about 1 AM when we were finishing up Archie's SOA. He said he hasn't seen a non-dented engine hood in quite some time (all 6 of his have the windshield dent in them), and he made a remark that this one was even the right color, red.

Cool... I've met Archie just once (sold him some 33" TSL's) and checked out his Website...

Now, I am not at all surprised about the rust falling off as you towed home. You are lucky all the stuff I threw in it didn't fall out through the floor!

Ya that hood was not dented, but did have a minor crack in it near the front... but nothing worth worrying about. I can't see much else worth drooling over unless it was AWFUL dark at 1am and he had a few beers before looking at it!

Later..

"It's a jeep thing, you wouldn't understand".

Just had to add that, after looking at how CLEAN (that nasty 5 letter word) yours was, you make me sick. Don't you understand oil and mud are a GOOD thing?

If you look at his, then you'd understand, beauty is not skin deep.

Yeah, those tires are nice, he hit me in the head with a large rock when he was flexing it up with a *before* picture. At 1AM, with no brakes, a scabbed together steering system, and stock shocks, we didn't bother with an *after* picture.

Heh, heh, heh, I figured it would, so we packed it into the Trooper for the ride home. Traded Nate the soft top and doors for a fron d30 as well, so it was a "little" lighter on the way home, but I think the soft top kept the sides from flapping around.

Sounds like a nice relaxing weekend!

I would have liked to help out, but my CTS/tendonitis has gotten real bad the last few weeks. I can't help myself around a vehicle project and didn't want to exacerbate my injury. Your place on 220 is turning into the swbbbs meeting hall! Brendan

Yeah, I'm actually thinking of getting a flag to put out, signifying a jeep "safe house".

Charly, I was referring to a guy whose axles I swapped up here, all he did was sit around and drink all the beer, then he'd act like a little kid when he had to pick up a wrench.

Hey hey now.../wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif Mine is only clean because I haven't had a chance to have it out playing since I started the motor swap! If looked real close, you would have noticed where the tub was dented 3 times already, its been wheeled with that body on it about 3 times!

Give me a little while down here in rainy FL, and it be just a dirty as the next. Though I can tell you eyeballs are gonna roll in the development we moved into when my jeep starts riding around here, hehe hehe.. /wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif

Its a good thing you emptied all the stuff out of the 5. I am sure it would have been a sight to see flat towing that to Maine... Just glad I wasn't behind you!

Yep, Challenger 172..it is nice.

And in the basement right now is both a Miller AC/DC stick (that my buddy just bought..he's storing it here for the time being) and a L-Tec plasma cutter (I'm using the OBA on the YJ for the air) that is on loan from a large educational institution nearby :).

Come on up.

rkcrwl,

What are you going to do without the rocks? Down here its nothing but sand, mud, and palmettos. Tomorrow I'm bringing the Wrangler home, dunno yet if I'll be able to drive it onto the trailer, or have to push it again /wwwthreads_images/icons/tongue.gif

Make it up as you go.
