Anybody got any idea what could be the source of the (knock-thump noise) im feeling in the floorboard area when im turning on an incline? I never posted a direct question on this ,but in passing on others. At first thought it was the radius bushings and changed em(nope) then i heard about the loose front cross member problem, checked it for loose rivets(nope)WTF could it be? will a bad ball joint cause it? or a broken trans mount or will dry rotted body bushings do it? sometimes it knocks twice if the road really leans or the incline switches from left to right or vice versa.

steve said the floorboard will crack at the rear seat mount sometimes, you think that could be it or is it a more "powerful" knock? have you looked at the pivot bushings at all? might be it. motor mounts, body cracking near gutter (like mine did)? when you changed the radarm bushings did they have the little white inserts in there? just curious cuz mine only had it on one side i believe, which still confuses me. i want to change those bushings but i have to grind down my welds first (doh!)... but i gotta get this baby running first.

From sitting in the drivers seat it sounds like its coming from the area under the pedal trans tunnel area though i realize sound can travel. my white plastic spacers on the radius bushings are fine. Its a fast thump (or POP)noise.

btw , whats an easy way to check the pivot bushings?

Sounds like a tie rod or ball joint.Jack the tire up and check for movement when pulling, pushing on the wheel. The wifes burb was making a popping sound and the outer tie rod was toast.

while we are on the subject of a knocking sound, mine "clicks" kinda lightly up until approx 65mph, where I can no longer hear it(it is coming from bith of my front wheels).I know it is something that has to do with the wheels because it is a very repetative sound that clicks faster as I go faster. It also stops soon as any brake pressure is applied to it, it has done it ever since the week after i got it- I thought it was the auto hubs- so I swithced em out with manual- it stopped for a week then started right back up!!! I am getting frustrated as well.

Any help?

Sorry broncomania- don't know

sounds like brake pads. are the little clips that hold them tight in there? if u just barely touch the brakes, and it goes away, that sounds to me like it is the problem. either the clips are missing, or you should apply brake quiet to the back of the pad, which makes it stick to the caliper, s it wont rattle between the caliper and the roter when not braking.

We replaced the brake pads when we got it, we have greased the whole brake assembly with the special high temp grease. We have taken the wheel off numerous times and inspected the brakes and it all looked perfect. I will try the brake quiet.
any more ideas?

Had the same sound while turning. Changed the ball joints, all poly bushings and everything's tight. Then I was doing work on it with one of the other guys on this list (can't remember his screen name here) -and noticed a crack along the seam of where the steering box mounts. Welded it and the sound went away.

Uh-oh! what side of the box do they crack? I thought only chevy trucks had that problem. i changed ALL my tie-rod ends retightened my wheel brgs, rechecked my ball-joints and axle pivot bushings(new poly radius ones already)and its gotten better after the tie -rods BUT still has a little POP or THUMP going around a corner.
LEMME know where your crack was,I`ll start lookin(good thing i bought a miller welder)/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif
