Hello All,
I am thinking of purchasing a 91 or 92 Ranger with a 2.3 four banger, mazda r-1 tranny. With a 3 inch lift and 31" tires. It has the stock gearing in the axles. And, you gotta be flying to hit 5th gear. I think 2.08s? in them. But, would 3.73s do it to get it back close to stock? I will be using this for daily driving, mostly. I have never changed gears in a ttb front before, how hard is it? I am guessing randys ring and pinion for them.
Thanks,
Chris

Check your stock tire size and stock axle code on the inside of your door, then post back. 373s arent great with 31s, at least not on my truck

Your truck probably already has 3.73's in it now. They put "lowish" gears in the Rangers with the 4 spankers. There's a door code chart over on www.TheRangerStation.com's mainpage that can tell you what gears you have in the rear right now. From reading on the forums there, I'd suggest you'll need at least a 4.10 gear to keep it moving, and a 4.56 would probably be your best bet.
