I pulled my diff cover and counted the gears to try and figure out my ratio. How about a little help. The big gear has 41 teeth, I am going from the tag on the rearend for this info, the rest of it was shot. The front and back gears in the little carrier looking thing had 14 teeth and the ones on the side
had 11 teeth. I didnt have any help so I couldnt turn the rear tires(front diff) to count the teeth on the pinion gear(the one going into the big gear)
I am lost when it comes to this stuff. Is this the one I need to count.

The 41 will be the ring gear. To figure out the ratio you need to know how many teeth are on the pinion gear. This is the one that is directly connected to the drive shaft. The gears in the carrier do not affect the gear ratio. Although I think that you might have counted wrong because both of the geas in the carrier should have the same number of teeth on them.

hey there.. you should count the pinion gear also.. and divide the two. and yes they should atleast be within a tooth of each other.. since some vehicles will be different.. ie.. 4.09 in front and 4.10 in the back. dont worry these are close enough to do no harm.. and by the sound of it.. if your ring gear has 41 teeth.. you might have 4.10's.. but count pinion gear to be sure.
the backyard way.. spin the tire 360 degree's.. count how many rotations your yoke makes.. ie.. tire one turn.. yoke 4 turns... =4.10's

yep.. its the jeepgod..

I never can get that backyard method to work. Mostly because I have never owned a jeep with stock tires on it. The one I have now has slightly smaller than 31's they are 10R x 15. It shows 2 full revolutions on the driveline for 1 full tire turn. Hell my good jeep shows a gear ratio of like 1 point something with my 33's thats why I am checking this other jeeps ratios, I think I am gonna swap the whole axle set up front and back into my "BABY"
