My transmission and transfer case are leaking pretty bad and it looks as though the previous owner had put atf oil in it. What kind of gear oil should I be using, will this stop the leaks, is synthetic a good choice, etc? Thanks for all your info!

the tranny is suposed to have 80w-90 gear oil, the transfercase takes dexronII ATF.

I doubt the oil is whats causeing the leaks, I wouldnt be suprised if its leaking where the transfercase and tranny are bolted together

IF ITS GOT WHEELS OR A SKIRT YOU CANT AFFORD IT

Synthetic oil can increase leakage, if up until now you have been using regular oil.

My truck ain't leaking oil it's marking it's territory!
