When I took my sending unit it worked some, not well, but some. When I put it back it did not work at all. I think I have a bad ground. What would be the best way to put a sure ground on the tank?

thanks for your time.

"when I took my sending unit OUT"

Is it just me, or are typos real easy to find as soon as you post them.

It's not just you but maybe it just happens to you and me. The best way to ground those is right at the sending unit with a ground to the body and one to the frame then a seperate one from the frame to the body just for the [email protected]@ of it.

To test for bad ground, simply take a pair of Jumper cables ( or a long piece of wire) and attach to the Negative post on the battery and then attach the other end to where you need it grounded, very quick way to see if ground maybe bad.

When I replaced my tank 2 years ago, the gauge always read real low (full was about 3/4 on the guage). After replacing the tank, and putting in a new sending unit, it still read the same (arrrrrrrg.)

The ground was good. I changed it several times to make sure. No difference. So I lived with it.

Now the strange thing. Since moving to Virginia, I noticed that the gauge seemed to be closer to true. Tonight, when I filled up on the way home from work, it read almost full!

Strange

Well, it is 87 (VA) vs. 85 (CO) octane

I did get it in some deep mud a few weeks ago (I didn't think I was going to get out, but I did. My father was surprised when he saw how deep that I got that he didn't have to pull me out with the tractor)

Maybe that's what fixed it! Abusing it!
