after swapping the AMC 360 into my cj,i put a complete carb kit into the motorcraft 2100,this and a
complete tuneup made the engine run excellent, and the carb works great.it even remains running at
severe angles with no problems.but theres a catch.when i need to gas it hard for a short burst (like to
"pop" it up a rock or bank) then totally release the accelerator, the engine stalls,it also stalls when
slowly idling along and then nailing the brakes, and also when climbing a bumpy steep hill,is there a
way to fix this gas slosh type of behavior?tia

/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif I don't think that the 2100 is known to be a slosh problem as you describe. HOWEVER, you may be operating without the dashpot, or the dashpot is kaputzo. Check and see if the dashpot is still OK, and if it is adjusted properly. If it isn't, then the engine will die everytime you let up on it./wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif

/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif A dash pot is a little round diaphram that has a thread sitcking out and is located at the base of the throttle. The dash pot should contact the throttle linkage as it is trying to close and act as a delay. The adjustment should not hold the throttle open, but catch it as soon as possible on the downstroke so you use the whole stroke of the dashpot. It should have come in the kit all right, but if it didn't they are available at the auto parts./wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif

hey that makes alot of sense and sounds like its my trouble,my 1980 360 with the 2100 in question has an electric soliniod type deal in place of the dashpot you speak of,i removed it though, because i didnt have the electric plug in my cj,s wiring, and the j-10 that the motor/carb came from did,can i just run a 12v wire to this soliniod and adjust it or should i get an aftermarket dashpot and forget the soliniod?tia...(i thought the soliniod was only there to rev up the idle when the ac kicked in,but i guess thats why i'm the one asking the questions :)

/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif That solenoid was to help the engine die after the ignition was shut off so it would not "diesel" or as they say.."run on". It was also for the A/C like you say. The solenoid is useful for warmups, for winching, for LOTS of things where a just-above idle is needed. You could just install a dashpot in it's place, and keep it simple. Save that solenoid in case you do something later on that requires it/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif Also....remember that the actual idle setting is off the end of the solenoid, so if you didn't re-adjust after removing the solenoid, no wonder it dies/wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif
