i have a 1986.5 ext. cab v6 3.0l and was wondering if anyone could give me some ideas for modifications i could make to improve gas mileage. or engine performance

i was thinking of a aftermarket ignition system...?

i also was thinking of spiralmax addition....?
(can anyone attest to its performance...?)

also i think the gas mixture is rich because of the black soot that accumalates on the rear of the pickup bed...i also have a hesitation between 2500 -3500 rpm when accelerating...

any ideas would help

thnx gary

Don't bother with anything you mentioned. Check the basics first like plugs, cap, air filter, etc. Your O2 sensor might be bad also. I would check all these things before I sunk money into aftermarket items that won't do anything if the basic stuff on the truck needs replacement.

I agree whole heartedly with rockjaw. Go with the basics first. But also keep in mind that for many of us 17mpg is good. and for my truck for a while 13mpg was good, I changed out all of the afore mentioned parts and ran some injector cleaner and got 16mpg. The nissan line of trucks are notiorsly low geared and that hurts the economy in particular on the highway. Hell, I get better gas mileage in the city than on the highway.

a k&n filter will help a bit, but once you get 15-18 mpg give up thats all you will get in a truck. My pathfinder averages 18-20 mpg. both manual transmissions
