Ok,

I know we spend time off road with our beasties, but I have a stocker that is getting horrible gas milage. I have the I-6 4.2l engine in my 88 YJ. I just did a quick calc on my milage, and its like 13mpg! I know that this number should be higher (heck, my older S-10 gets 21), so am wondering what everyone else gets.

BTW: you can see my Jeep at members.theglobe.com/Czar_f/NaeKidJeep.jpg

It's a little on the low side, but if you wanted mileage, shoulda gotten a Civic. What type of driving do you do? Do you have a heavy foot? When was the last time you gave it a tune up? A K&N air filter might help too.

looks like you have stock tires. you should get 20mpg like my 87yj. mine is all stock. yea a tune up might be in order!

Thanks for the reply. Its good to know what the milage is supposed to be close to. I think I will do some cleaning up of my engine area and see what is really going on in there.

I have noticed some carbon in my tailpipe (just replaced 3 gas tanks ago) and am thinking there might be some carb problems.

Anyway, time to play with my beastie!

I just recently completed 700 mile road trip in my 90 YJ I6 5 spd. With K&N filter, Borla Cat-back and slightly modified ignition I averaged 18 mph. Before modifications I got about 13 or 14 mph city, haven't checked city mph lately. It runs great, so I'm not sure I'll get much better.
