Full Width Questions

Well, the time has come for my CJ to undergo major renovation. My stock running gear just isn't cutting it for 36" swampers and a springover (hehe). So I am going to be swamping in 3/4 ton chevy axles (10 and 14 bolt 4:10s posi), 350ci, turbo 350 and NP 208. But I am going to start with the axles. I am leaving them full width by the way. My question is about springs. Anybody got and ideas or advice on this. I plan to run around 40" inch tires with this setup. The axles currently have 8" springs on them now, but these were for a blazer and I think they would defenitely be to stiff for a jeep. Well anyway I am looking for all advice on the axle swaps in general or anything else. By the way I will be selling off all the stock gear in the jeep including the tires (36x12.50 Swamper Radials 300 miles). Thanks for any help. Happy Jeepin.
Also, does anyone know of any links that discuss/have pictures of full widths on a jeep?

you'll have problems you aren't thinking about.. the springs are way too far apart to get under your jeep frame and the only way to move them in is the put one right on top of the front differential housing..another solution is to move the spring mounts outside the frame, but thats not easy. the stock steering for a chevy axle comes out perfect with a springover so that it hits the leaf springs. also, if you use 8" springs with a springover, you'll get about a mile of lift. oh yeah(i'm thinking this up as i go) the chevy springs are too long to go under your frame and still get the axles centered in the wheel wells..if you use cj or yj 4" springs, you'll get any tires you want under it with a spring over

it's sort of still a cj thingy....
I have heard that the full width axles will look funny under the jeep frame, sticking out way past the fenders. May want to consider cutting them. By the way, my brother just finished a GM 12 bolt ,4.11, with the GM posi in it in the rear of his chevelle. VERY nice posi system! He can barely squeak one tire before it distributes the power and takes off! Does this without making a sound in the diff too. These 12 bolts apparently do well under 400 and 500 hp motors as well.

With 40's the tires will stick WAY out. That's the common mod around here for Super Stock mud boggers (CJ, full-width axles, , spring-over, 39.5 TSL's front 39.5 Boggers rear, bowtie motor, automatic, etc.). You'll want to keep CJ springs, but nothing too soft for all that unsprung weight. I'd suggest Rancho stock-height (aka 1" lift) replacement springs, a 3" body lift, & fender trimming as necessary. You're going to gain a couple of inches just swapping in the heavier-duty housings.
