Full Locker vs. Limited Slip/Positraction

Anybody care to comment on your experience with lockers vs. limited slips.

I was pricing a locker at a drivetrain shop and they strongly suggested a limited slip unit because we live so far from any good wheeling places that 99% of the time my K5 is on pavement. I'm not interested in mud (too bad, I could probably get into that a lot closer to home) just vertically challenged trails. Has anyone had experience with a limited slip that couldn't cut it on the trails? If so, what were the trail conditions? Or how about limited slips that did the job fine?

Just for reference, Tellico is about as close for me as any other decent place to go wheeling so that's where I'll probably head when I do get out, and whatever I buy I'd want it to be able to deal with a least some of the more 'fun' trails there.

I'd look at a tru-trac LSD. It's a gear driven unit, so it won't wear out before you get a chance to use it more than once or twice. You didn't say what kind of budget you're looking at, but what about an ARB? Tellico has that strange liquid earth stuff all over the place from what I hear.
One more thought, if you have hubs then consider a full locker in the front.

I'm running a Detroit Tru-Trac in the rear of my Blazer. At the time when I installed it the truck was my daily driver so I decided not to go with a full locker. The Tru-Trac is very smooth on the road and hardly, if at all, noticable but it does seem to work very well off-road. In extreme situations (a.k.a. one tire off the ground) a little brake pressure is required to get it to lock up. Though I'm pleased with it, if or when I do it over it will have a Detroit Locker in the rear since the truck is now used only for trailriding so everyday road manners don't matter.

I run a Powr-Loc in the front and an Auburn pro in the back. The pro is similar to the regular Auburn except that it has stronger springs so it stays locked longer. The Powr-Loc is supposed to be one of the stronger Limited slips available for a Dana 44, and it locks up real tight. I have gotten both of them to slip on hillclimbs when the truck is really twisted up, but they lock back up if I ride the brakes a little. I am now running only half a bottle of additive in eash one, which makes them noisier but they stay locked longer (although they wear faster, but at less than 3000 miles a year on the truck, no biggie to me). The reason that went with the L/S's instead of full lockers is because they are less prone to break axleshafts because they'll slip before breaking the shaft on a wheel that's stuck. I run a Dana 44 front with ORD shafts and a 12 bolt rear with Mosers and 38" Swampers. I have broken an axleshaft and a steering joint in the front in the past year, but I'm sure that I would break them more often with full lockers.
