fuel filter ?\'s - Can you mount them vertical?

I realize this might be a stupid question. However in my situation, I am trying to mount everything as close to the firewall as possible to keep a clean looking engine area. (I just did a tub swap).

Is it ok to mount a fuel filter vertical or does it have to be horizontal? I assume there must be a reason that every filter I have seen was horizontal...

Thanks for any help...

Mine is vertical. I don't think it matters. At the very least my jeep starts and runs every day so I hope it doesn't matter...

My Panel has one of each.....starts and runs every time. (knock on wood
)
Maybe the reason so many are horizontal is just odds.....most rigs have more horizontal line to tap into than vertical.
FWIW...I have a mechanical pump.

I don't think it will make a difference. I would put the inlet at the top and the outlet at the bottom so gravity will help to keep the fuel flowing.
I think most are horizontal 'cause thats how the fuel lines run.

well I cant put the inlet on the top. I have the main fuel line and the return fuel line along the frame to the passenger side of the firewall, I than need to bring them up the firewall than to the carb. My thinking is to either mount the filter on the frame rail or to bring both lines up to the firewall and mount the filter vertical, than the single line up to the carb.
