Front Universal Joint Part Number ?

I'm getting ready to replace both front hubs on my 99 XJ due to wear. I figured that since I already had the hubs off, I should replace the u-joints while the front end is already apart. I called my local parts store and the parts guy told me that he doesn't have a part number for the front universals. Maybe it's a dealer part only.

I know I have seen on these boards, part numbers for spicer and several other brands to replace the stock universals. I have searched all over this site for XJ u-joints but havn't found any conclusive part numbers for the stock jeep D30.

I must be missing something.

Using [dana 30 universal] for a Google search, I did find these part numbers:

Spicer P/N 5-297-1x Greasable

Spicer 5-297x or 5-760x non-greasable

Which one should I buy?

And what is the difference between the two non-greasable numbers?

My xj is a daily driver and stays on the road about 95% of the time. I'm thinking the non-greasable u-joint will work for me. Any thoughts this direction?

I'm buying parts on thursday and I'd like to get everything at once.

Thanks for any help,

Look HERE for everything you ever wanted to know (well... almost) about xj u-joint options.

To sum things up:

No, u-joints are not a dealer only thing. Lots of companies make them, only one company matters when it comes to oem replacement u-joints - spicer.

Soooooo..... go to your favorite parts place and say: "I need a pair of Spicer 5-760x front axle u-joints"

5-760x is the spicer part number.

760s replaced the 297's and 297-1's. Therefore, spicer does not make a greasable u-joint that will fit your application.

Hope that helps.
