This is a good deal, yes? I have all of the suspension parts in now and barring any nasty weather this weekend - I plan on beginning the upgrade. After that - it's brake time. I'm just beginning the research but spotted this on E-bay.

A set of remanuf. calipers will cost you about $100, the backing plates will run $60 - and that's just getting started - hubs are $80, rotors about $80, then there's brake lines, etc. Yes, it's worth a lot more than what it's going for now, but I'd check around & see what you can buy it for retail, then decide how much you want to bid - and don't bid any more than that. And don't forget - a lot of eBay sellers make their $ off the shipping since eBay doesn't charge a percentage of that.

And I don't know about posting a good eBay find here while it's still up for auction (unless of course, it's you that's selling).

No, it's not my auction. I always post what I think are good finds. I'm several weeks away from this upgrade anyway so if someone else can use it now - go for it. I'd like to have more research and understanding before I dive into it anyway. Since I have a few sets of other axles on partsters it was suggested that I do a total build/overhaul and just swap them out.

Yep - Caver, I'm using your write-up as a template. I have a 70 Partster I'm cutting up. I was going to build those axles and swap them in on my 70 when I'm done.

I have a 73 bullnose but I don't want to pull the axles on it as I plan on bringing this back to life after the Jeepster.

i almost went with the disc conversion on my 68 before deciding to update to 11 inch drums from the jeep guy. www.thejeepguy.com has a nice disc conversion kit with everything you need except for calipers included i think. you might check on this before bidding. good luck.

i have the kits in stock they normally run $325 forthe kit and it includes

2 rebuilt powder coated caliper brackets
2 new disk bearing hubs
2 new thick cj rotors
10 new disc wheel studs
2 new inner conversion races
2 inner grease seals

the only thing that the kit dosent have is calipers and hoses and i can also supply those if you want but on the calipers i would suggest your local parts store due toi weight with shipping .i have the kits on sale right now for $300.00 plus shipping
the reason these kits are so great is it uses all original jeep parts as the calipers are mid 70's wagoneer and all other parts are jeep no after market stuff you wont be able to find in five years when you need parts check out the web for pictures or email me for more info.

Ryan, which do you think is better for a D27 - the GM front disk conversion or the Wagoneer/CJ style? Or is there any noticeable difference? Do you have to replace the oil fill plugs on the closed knuckles with the Jeep caliper brackets, too?

The only 2 real differences seem to be the calipers (70's Wagoneer vs. 70's GM 1500 series) and the backing plates/caliper bracket (I like the GM style solid backing plate better, but I don't know if it really is better). I'm working on the GM conversion (or at least, I will be once it warms up a bit), so I'm just kind of curious...

And btw, for anyone who might be reading - $325 is a really good deal to get all that in one place and not have to scrounge around like I did. It would have saved me both time and money...

Ipersonally like the gm style better as they use a bolt system to slide and center the caliper compared to the jeep, scout (ford design )caliper that uses the spring loaded wedge as they seem to not center correctly and will wear out one pad faster and end up ruining your rotor. and when your doing the dana 27 conversion i'm not even sure if you can use the jeep caliper bracket as i think your required to do alot of grinding .that is something i do is reclock bracket with the gm style and it keeps any grinding minmal

on the twin stick boot keep in mind that i'm am working on getting rings for them as this is the popular boot everyone is selling but no rings were availible so i'm having them made i should get my first batch next week and i'm also doing the manual transmission rings in steel of polished stainless.so give me a shout if your interested also i'm done a twin stick conversion in mine that i still working out some kinks but it uses stock dana 18 twin stick sticks so it looks like a factory deal i'm planning on getting some photos so you all see as i've seen some pretty wild ideas and this one is solid and looks factory.

Ryan,

You sell the Jeep conversion and I like the reasoning of all Jeep parts for future, but you also say you prefer the GM style if I read these posts correctly.

Do you sell the GM backing plates/kit also?

So far, I have not had any success finding the GM plates at slavage yards around here.

it is sitting in a snowbank covered with ice. i drove it about 5 miles back from the garage that installed the stuff. he did not adjust them very tight due to the weather here right now. they seemed to work great but i had it in 4x4 and the roads were slick. with 2 quadratrac jeep grand cherokees in the garage i have no incentive to clean the ice snow frost off the windshield of the jeepster to drive it to work. we are having a good old fashioned winter here again this year. hopefully we can get some better weather sometime soon so i can enjoy driving it and trying it out in better conditions. i expect an improvement over the 10 inchers but they were so bad shape when i got it i may not be able to judge very well. one wheel cylinder had one side stick out and wore the shoe and drum out. the other wheel cylinder was leaking. i have 30x950 tires. i do not expect to put bigger tires on it. it is low mileage 13k so i am trying to keep it pretty original. i don't expect to do hard wheeling with it just drive it to work, cruise in's etc. drums should do great for me and still look original and cheaper too.

"He sold the rears and the brake kit as a package locally. That is why I pulled it off. Sorry."
