I bought a 71 CJ 5 last summer and I have a Dana 27A front diff. I heard that I can swap front diffs with a 77 or newer CJ that already has disc brake set up. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, what do I need in terms of steering parts to adapt my Jeep for this front diff? Can I use the stock mastercylinder if I don't have power brakes? I appreciate any info.

I have heard the same thing that it is nearly a bolt in swap to a later Dana 30. I can't give you the specifics myself but you might try this same post on the Jeepster forum. Since all kaiser era Jeepsters came with the same axle as yours these guys are experts at those swaps. In fact there is an article that gives a little info on the swap on the Jeepster Club home page. Hope they can help you.
